 Future technology and infidelity
This thread is more meant for interesting discussion than anything else. The thought occurred to me recently about how technology impacts fidelity (on both making it easier to cheat/presenting more opportunity and catching the cheater) and what the future will eventually bring to the table.
As much as facebook gets demonized by some people on this forum, it is just a tool and essentially the amount of joy and/or benefit that the majority of people who use it outweighs the amount of strife it causes in EA's and reconnecting old flames, etc.
I actually forsee some even bigger challenges that may or may not be in our lifetimes that will cause infidelity to even rise more and present marital challenges than social network sites and adulterous dating sites on the internet.
1) Virtual reality porn
Don't kid yourselves, this is a real possibility and don't think people aren't out there working to get to this future cash cow. Whether or not you strap sensors onto your genitals and wear a helmet to see the porn star you could virtually touch and feel or perhaps have something that wireless transmits something into your brain or maybe even something like in the movie Surrogates, it will cause a heckuva lot more problems than your typical porn.
2) longevity of life-
I think my generation may be one of the last generations that could die of "old age". There will most likely be in the next 50 years a way found genetically to stop aging. Putting aside the problems of population overgrowth (which exists regardless of any new longevity measures) and class wars where the rich will afford de-aging and where the poor can't, this will have an effect on monogamy. Til death do us part changes when you may be looking at living twice or thrice the amount of time you thought you were.
those are two things off the top of my head that I could see happening
