We don't celebrate VD because I hate how silly it gets and so from the start of our relationship told my H that we have all year to celebrate our love for each other. So come VD it is about our kids getting cards and small thing of treats from us and then on to a regular old day.
On my H's last birthday I started the day off with breakfast, put his favorite treat in his car and left him "I want you" ummm hinting, some reminding him of other wonderful nights we had together, notes every where. In the glove box, in his lunch, in the trunk, even one taped to his tooth brush. All day what was coming at the end of the day was on his mind.
I even set a reminder in his phone to go off right when he would leave work. All day long he anticipated our evening. Then it was his favorit meal for dinner and the night went as he had been teased that it would all day. It was kind of fun. You did buy something hot to wear for him so this might work for you.
