You bring up an important point. I doubt she has had a boyfriend the entire time. Why didn't she come by after she broke up with her first boyfriend? Maybe it is the unattainable attraction but maybe when the chips are down she feels I show empathy towards her. She has on several occasions told me “Thanks for being there when I needed a friend" Maybe the word friend is her way of saying Don't get too attached.
