The books, esp HN/HN but all 3 really, are written to spark romantic move. Dr. Harley the author of HN/HN and LB, found in his practice that couples headed for divorce were able to turn their relationships around by reviving romantic love.
What counseling does is gives your wife a safe place to talk about issues that she feel she can't bring up with you alone. But not if she hates counselors, obviously.
