Could be. I've botched a few batches of mead myself.
Try storing it in a cooler place. Either that or you didn't sterilize your equipment well enough. Remember, make sure you wash everything with a couple capfuls of bleach first before you pour the mix into the bottle. Any little wayward organism can play havoc with the yeast culture.
