Thumbs down Blocking phone calls/texts on Samsung S7 Edge

Apparently it does not work to go into settings and block texts or phone calls for some reason. Anyone have other ideas on how to go about doing this? Besides tossing the damn phone into the creek. Our cell provider does not block personal numbers.

Re: Blocking phone calls/texts on Samsung S7 Edge

Did you try the phone's application settings and the messaging app settings??

Many people just are not aware that apps have their own application settings that are apart from the Android system settings.

How you go about this is to open the phone/message application.
Once opened you should look for and see a "the dot overflow icon" in either the top left or top right corner of the screen.
Once you tap on that a menu should expand.
That menu should include a "settings" selection.
Tap that.
Look around in the apps settings and you should be able to find an option for blocking numbers.
Sometimes referred to as a "black list"

:-)

Edit: also worth noting that if your running Android 7.0 or above, that if you block a number in the phone app setting it will automatically be blocked from receiving text messages.

On my S6, I just find a call in the call log and click on it to see the details. In the upper right corner, there's a menu that says "More". I click on this and see "Block/Unblock". It works fine for me. Not sure what options are controlled by the provider versus the Phone app though.

I think she wants to permablock the number, not just block it so that it can just be easily unblocked in the call log.
JS.

Though if you do block it via the call log long press @emuna perhaps make sure you also delete the log entry to better conceal your actions.

There are several android apps available.

I use Mr. Number. It also gives you a spam blocker with a database of identified spam and caller ID.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S7. Just select the phone # (in your phone icon-mine is a bright green color) then in top right select More. Then select Add to Block List.
