We are old geezers. There was no "on-line" 23 years ago. But we did first meet on a company conference call.

Not online, but close. I actually met my husband through an phone dating service. Kinda crazy. But it was through a local radio station that allowed you to do it all by phone, then you left a voice mail for your matches if you wanted to. It was a 900# to check your voicemails. Crazy when I think about it now..... lol But it worked. If he wasn't so damn lazy! lol

I did, although I don't think I would have considered going that route on my own. My admin. assistant at work was trying to fix me up with all available men she knew and said I should put a profile online, or she would on my behalf! Anyway, I thought about it and figured with my work/home schedules I really had no opportunity to go out at meet anyone and was never into the club scene so I thought this might be a way I could do that...when the kids are sleeping go online, etc. Some of the dates I went on would probably make for a funny movie but it was worth it in the end

I did have one guy that looked like a caveman who kept emailing me...I think he was homeless and looking for somewhere to sqaut!

I did... back in 1998... I was in high school and just fooling around looking for others in my town... I e-mailed him, we decided to meet and the rest is history! We are 5 years apart, so we wouldn't have met in school

Swedish I am happy to hear your story. I have several single friends and I keep trying to convince them to try online dating, but they won't listen to me. I am not sure where else these girls are going to meet people because they work all the time, and the work with mostly gay men....How did your friend change your mind?

I met my husband in graduate school. I really never thought that I would meet my husband at school because I was in the MSW program, and few men enroll enter the field..

Swedish

Maybe you missed an opportunity there. Maybe he is now comfortably retired in the Bahamas from all the money he made doing GEICO commercials.

After being fixed up several times with no luck (I guess I am picky) I thought about it and it made sense that it would give me an opportunity to meet people outside of my circle of friends and thought the chances of meeting someone inside my circle of friends was minimal being in my 30's and most of them were married.

I am shy by nature so it was also easier for me to email back and forth a bit and get to know the person a little before meeting up with them. I was concerned about the safety aspect of it, but I always gave my friend the details/profile of the man and would always meet in a public place and fortunately never had any issues.

I was the head of the IT department where I was working at the time and raising three young children on my own, so to be honest, it did not even leave me much time for the online route. I did not initiate the contact on the site. My friend would check the profile and print off possible candidates that had contacted me and give them to me in a folder to look through. It was one night when my kids were at their dad's for the weekend, I decided to look around the site myself and found my now husband. Funny, we did not come up as matches for each other because he's 5 years younger so we initially weeded each other out.

Your situation is just like mine, only I met my husband in 2000. (except we're a year apart). He lived only 20 miles from me, and I wouldn't have known him otherwise!
