Marriage is an institution that can be a blessing or a curse. I have beem married for thirty years to my husband, and it HAS been hard. Somedays I wonderd if we would make it - but our preseverance has paid with the wonderful rewards of companionship that I always dreamed about. Something I didn't see at all in the polygamist colony where I was brought up.
Because of my background, I am disturbed to learn that polygamy is making a comeback, even in some Christian groups.
Here is some of what I have learned in my journey:
1. It takes two people committed to making a happy marriage.
2. Both partners have unpleasant baggage to lose. They must learn to see their own hang ups, help each other, and forgive. (You think you get confused dealing with one partner's problems? Imagine what it's like for plural families! The women I knew learned to suffer in silence).
