Default Makes You Think

I'm down here in Tennessee. Just spent the last couple days digging out the injured and dead following a series of tornados. Seeing and hearing the grief of husbands and wives who've unexpectedly lost their spouse, caused me to think. Lots of husbands tonight wish they had their complaining, non-sexual wives and lots of wives probably wish they could pick up their husband's dirty socks or hear him snore again. Whatever problems I think I might have with my wife, she's alive and so am I. I would feel incredible loss if she died. Life could be much worse. However they end, all our relationships will permanently end at some point. Nobody's guaranteed 80+ years on this earth. Anyway, my life might not be exactly what I had envisioned but I and the wife are healthy and both employed. My kids are healthy. My house is still standing. The bills are paid and we have what we need. I feel very blessed and I also feel a little ashamed of myself for complaining about relatively trivial matters when others are fighting for their lives.
Anyway, just a thought.

Thank you for this.

We'll keep our hands folded.

I live everyday now as if it were the first day I had even seen and the last I were going to see!

__professor William Lyon Phelps

Cherish everyday of mine, do things to make myself and people around me happy, and stop letting small things bother me. (This is what I tell myself everyday!)

I have not even turned the news on in over a week, don't even know what is going on in this country. I am guilty of taking many comforts for granted, grumbling when things don't always go my way. I am not sure how, but I have never yet suffered a great human tragedy -close to home, in my life, but I know my day will come, like it does for all of us at one time or another. I fear when my husband may be taken from me or me from him, I can tear up within seconds just going there in my mind.

I only hope I will have friends & family to be there for me -when these uncertain tragedys unfold in our backyards. Nothing else will be more important in this life in such times. I have broken down just viewing some stories on the news at times, feeling the pain in the faces, hearing the screaming loss. I want to shut it off.

It DOES grab our hearts & make us want to run to our children right then , squeeze them & kiss them all over and our spouses tonight, and bless the house we live in, even it if does have a leaky roof or a flooded basement.

Yes, so Much to be thankful for .

For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.
~Ralph Waldo Emerson
