I wanted to post a post script as I had a couple of threads out here just in case anyone (probably not) wondered about how it all turned out.
The background is that wifey was going to a writers seminar about 2 hours away. As it started early she decided to go and spend the night. She was asked by a friend who couldn't make it to pick up a book at the sellers table from an author (Sam) she (wifey) had a small EA with and is on the NC list. Second, a guy (John) she runs a writer's weekend retreat conference with has been sending pretty chummy emails recently (getting my attention) and he wanted to take my wife to dinner, alone, after the seminar and pay for it to discuss a workshop she is giving in his place at a conference in the near future. I expressed my strong misgivings about this 'date' and told her not to. I was going to turn the VAR on her phone on and then check it after the day when she got home. However, I decided to go and spend the night with her Friday and have a good time and show some good husbandly comfort.
So we did go down in separate cars (I wasn't interested in sitting around all day and have a painting project at home) and really had a nice evening. Great room (wifey likes nice motels), went swimming and hot tubbing and found a nice hole-in-the-wall place for some fish 'n chips. Had a nice early morning as well. And, she told me, the dinner was going to be 3 or 4 people (all ladies and John) so I opted not to use the VAR.
As it turns out, Sam was a no-show (she tells me). I believe her. As to John, both the other ladies were also no-shows at first (or so she reported initially). She tells me one of them actually was there and the 3 of them went out to dinner. I believe her.
Here's where it gets odd.
John was spending the night in a motel as he has a much further drive (passes thru our city and continues north 3-4 hours) and had hopes of driving her home, thinking I was dropping her off. Uh, where the hell did he expect her to spend the night? I suppose at his motel (1 block from the place the seminar was held), but he never discussed this with anyone and had taken it for granted. Wifey was curious about that as well.
So, all's well that ends well. But I'm gonna keep my eye on John a bit.
