Default Gaslighting and the sexes

I just read this article:

Yashar Ali: A Message to Women From a Man: You Are Not "Crazy"

And the thing I found myself thinking is that I don't think on the societal scale you can call emotional manipulation gaslighting - to me it seems gaslighting is a deliberate and intentional method of manipulating a specific person or group of people into indirectly getting what you want from them.

I think on the large scale like this article is talking about, that is just socialization.

But whether its on the individual level or the societal one, I kind of take exception to the idea that women are more susceptible to this kind of emotional manipulation... I also believe that men are just as emotional beings as women, and the fact that one would believe otherwise just proves the point that such emotional manipulation, that men or women are a certain way, has been atleast as successful against men.

Do you agree or disagree?

I agree. This is exactly what has happened to this male at times. Male or female, it can happen.
