Re: To everyone on TAM - new policy

I'm happy about this rule. It draws the eye too much when one has to take that extra split-second to decipher a filtered word.

The rule makes it harder to decipher what word the poster is using. Now we can just use our imagination & play the game of "Fill in the Blank". Aka, "What the Bleep did they say?!".

No but there is free market and if the owner makes the product too difficult to use the customers will leave. Many already have, looking at the decline in membership and activity now vs prior years.

I think she misspoke and meant they weren't allowed because they were a bypass , IMO.

The whole point here is we will be judged on what is typed, not intent.

I still don't get the self filtering prohibition. Can we be banned for typing **** instead of ****? That makes no sense.

No, I don't think so. It's when you get creative by replacing a letter with a symbol or you spell out the word with spaces. So, for this example, the word ass is prohibited. Typing A$$ is a no-no. Or A S S. Or, a* s is also a no-no. Or a**. But, just using asterisks isn't against the rules. That's how I interpreted it.

Upon further review i think E was saying that the filter may change in future making **** now visible. So if you typed **** and the filter was relaxed, the post would still show **** instead of ****.

Yes we have mods and mod bots here on TAM that do nothing but read every word that everyone types, at least 10 times each, because we are judging you. Oh my you figured it out.

The whole point of this is just type out every friggen word. You don't need to come up with cutesy spellings. Just say what you want to say. And the filters will do their job. The words that are filtered could change. So you don't have to worry what they are, just type your words. Use your words. And let the filter software do it's thing.

Mods cannot tell if a person typed out "****" or if the filter did it.

You are right about the concept of creative spellings.. but ass is not a filtered word.
