I had a bachelor party, but it wasn't the traditional drinking and strippers.
We had a big group of friends who made it a point to haze any of the guys who got married, by making them embarrass themselves in a series of dumb games in public places all around town: grocery stores, drug stores, parks, friend's houses, etc.
I still have a literal ball and chain to this day in my basement from it. It's a large black bowling ball they attached a hook and chain to (thick chain too). On the bowling ball is my wife's name written in large white letters.
It was done all in good fun though, and my wife gets a smile from the ball and chain every time she sees it.
Mine was pretty G rated. We went and got wings from Quaker Steak and Lube, then bowled a couple games, then headed to my best man's house and played games.
We did all the decorating and such for our own wedding, and had a huge one, all coming out of our own pockets. By the time we were done, I didn't have the energy even if someone would have wanted to throw one for me. My older brother, who was best man, took us all out to pizza after the rehearsal, then I went home, had a couple of wine coolers (live'n dangerously!) and went to bed!
My hubby just had a few friends take him to the local pool hall, buy him a few drinks and a few games. That was all he wanted - thank god. Posted via Mobile Device
Nope. Did not want one. I had also seen all the strippers I ever wanted to by that time.
That said, no reason someone cannot have a marriage friendly bachelor / bachelorette party. I do not view it as the last day of being single. That is very old fashioned. These days folks have been commited for a long time. They are not really single any more.
A tame one, not by choice. Although i was pushing for one, the few friends who were able to make it had no interest in a strip club, and probably half of us weren't drinkers. So, we met for dinner at a local place, played some pool, then headed off for...miniature golf. Oh...the excitement. Posted via Mobile Device
I didn't have one with my current wife but before my first marriage I went shark fishing with five friends. I was sick for five hours, smelled like fish and didn't get lucky and catch a thing. My marriage ended up being much like my bachelor party.
Hubs went to an indoor go-kart racing track with 10 of his buddies. They raced for a couple hours and then went for beers. lol He was home by midnight.
Hubs went out same night as me. I had a group of about 20 friends who met at our place for pizza, then piled into cabs to see a cabaret show and have drinks. I didn't realize the cabaret venue was essentially a gay club, that was small and intimate and we ended up pretty much having the place to ourselves. We danced around with ribbon twirlers, tambourines, and had good innocent fun!
Meanwhile he was out with 3 guys, they smoked cigars at a pub, had dinner then went to the casino. No strippers or anything. I texted him where I was at, just past 12am, to let him know I was heading home (lol lightweight. I knew I was reaching my limit with drinks and wanted to go home and still feel good/remember it.) He then said he'd call it a night too and we met at home at the same time.
A bit off topic, but my favorite "wedding" memory by far was meeting up with our "real friends" the night before the wedding at this little dive bar!
The Wedding and the reception were just so "busy" (yes - even for the groom!). Trying to say hello to every Aunt, Uncle and Cousin and thank them all - it wasnt really that much fun.
But the night before - old friends from high school mixing with newer friends from college - no Aunts or distant cousins - one of the best nights of my life!
