If you need 100 pounds carried across the field, being able to do it is superior to not being able to do it. And on average, more men can do it than women. That's what I meant. I was not discussing pain threshhold. I also very clearly said "in general" several times for emphasis, but of course there are obvious exceptions. Gay men don't count "in general", for example. As far as math, I wasn't talking about grade school arithmetic. Most mathematicians are men, by a wide margin, despite all kinds of affirmative action.
Grade school math? Gay men don't count in general? "Real" men are more superior because the carry 100 lbs?
I don't even know where to begin.
In general, men and women are not equals. Why should they be? In general, men are physically superior to women. In general, women are more nurturing than men. In general men are more dominant than women. In general women are more submissive. Superior at what? Building the trappings of civilizations? (men) Math? (men) Keeping communities together? (women) Raising children? (women). We are not equals. That's the point.
My point was that women have been treated as 3rd class citizens since ancient times..yes, we're different, but we should be treated as equals. Here's a good example..why did it take so long for women to finally get the right to vote in this country? Does that mean we are inferior to men?
I wanted to be a math teacher. Someday I'll get to that. lol. Right now, I like teaching elementary school. HS kids make my head hurt.
They killed it prematurely by moving it from The Ladies' Lounge to the Politics and Religion section. 650+ posts in the Feminism thread as of this writing, but since this thread is now in the politics and religion section, the most viewed thread here seems to be "She's married, and she's a prostitute." It has 28 posts as of this writing. This is one of the least viewed sections of this site.
With what he wrote I was half expecting him to throw in "darkies".
I wonder what has happened to someone to make them that bigoted/misogynistic.
To me there is a very huge difference between bigotry and generalities. I was using generalities, which were true. Now I will try extremes: The strongest person in the world is a man. The strongest woman in the world can best a good percentage of the weakest men in the world. The most productive mathematicians in the world are men (by just about any measure). The best woman mathematician in the world has far more papers than I will ever have. The most productive inventors in the world are men. The most productive woman inventor in the world has the same number of patents as me (one). Do you know that there are only a handful of women inventors? The best child-rearers in the world are all women. Yes, some are even better than Dr. Spock.
Nowhere did I say that women are not good at math, or that there are no men who are good at child-rearing, or that you aren't good at math, or anything like that. I was talking about basic facts which we should all be able to agree on and which can be looked up even in this day and age.
Most men aren't gay, that's why I didn't include them in the "in general" comments. I am probably the least bigoted person you've ever conversed with. I don't think you understood what I was trying to say, but then you never do on this subject. Are you willfully ignorant of these facts? Can you refute any of them (without making up non-standard definitions for "strong" for example), or do you just want to continue the ad hominem attacks?
Physically superior? I can be in labor for 25 hours and not die and you can lift 100 lbs. One isn't superior to the other.
Good point. I mean men in general are stronger than women, which I think you knew. If I had meant what you refer to, I would gladly admit that women in general have a superior pain tolerance. I'm simply trying to state facts here and exchange knowledge, really. My bad for not being clearer.

Well then I'll explain. When someone says "Men in general are better at math" I think you can infer that I mean creating mathematics rather than rote learning of arithmetic and algebraic operations. I concede that at that age, girls are better at that stuff. If you or she really thought I meant that men are better at 7th grade math, well I don't know what to say.
When I said men are stronger in general than women, and that gay men don't count in that equation, I meant they don't count because they are not a big enough percentage of the overall number of men to make a difference in the general characteristic, so even if every one of them is a 98-pound weakling (they're not), it doesn't affect the truth of the overall statement because they are less than 10% of the total. That IS 7th grade math. In other words, the statement "men are stronger in general" is true whether you include gays or not and whether gays are strong or not in general, simply because most men aren't gay. That's what's meant by "don't count". Men are better at logic.
When I said men are physically superior I meant that in general men are stronger, not that being stronger is superior to other physical traits. That was my bad as I said. Women are better at communicating

Let's take the education debate for a moment...since schools have turned very pro girl and started to leave boy's needs out of the equation, girls have begun to excel in subjects at a faster rate than boys. They also graduate more often from college currently. A lot of the problem could be access to edumucation or teaching in a way that is better suited for a boy or girl. Another factor is giving the person a chance to use their edumucation. There are so many darn factors.
Granted, my husband is really good at figuring things out and I really suck at what he's good at but what I am good at he sucks at. This is just us. I would be pretty dumb if I thought that because it applied to us it applied to everyone.
GENERALIZATION ALERT: Men are physically superior but women are emotionally superior. Men are better with objective reasoning and women are better at multi-tasking. Men and women are very much different which actually makes us compatible.

I agree 100%. I was also making the point that men and women are different, and that's a good thing. We're NOT all the same inside. Viva la difference!
This is an article that came out on October 27, 2011. It is written by Colleen Carroll Campbell and she talks about this very issue which this thread is about. The article is titled "A Heavy Toll for Today's Young Women."
Yea, I wouldn't agree with "men in general are better at math". 1. because for 11 years, my girls have EXCELLED in math while my boys struggle...and they will become men...who struggle in math. and 2. Just in my family alone, the women have jobs like CPA, bank manager, etc and the men are nurses, exterminators, etc.

That's just from my experience.
Things change.
You don't agree because of a single anecdote? That men in general are better at math? Do you see the logical contradiction in that? The irony, if it weren't so frustrating, would be hilarious.
