How is this worse? Commercials routinely make a mockery of women but I don't see you flapping about that. Also if you look at the subtle undertone in this commercial, it implies only women know how to do/should do laundry. The ad alienates both genders, not one.

That's what I said: Aimed at housewives themselves. Or wait, maybe it is...no, hold on a second, or maybe it isn't. It's confusing, but for some reason, I think that is exactly the point of what was intended (which I don't get). It is what's become of gender roles in our society. The character in the commercial doesn't even exist in real life. In marketing, one of the things you want to do is reach as many people as possible with your message. The commercial plays to that concept, and it "tries" to appeal to actual "men." I guess?
If this is supposed to be a modern-day Rosie the Riveter for men, it fails.

Why can't those be examples? Don't you think it is insulting as all get out to be "shown" how to use a paper towel/laundry soap/Windex/mop? Do those ads EVER feature a man doing it? Even better, should it be acceptable that women are constantly told their private regions stink and need this, that and whatever for that "not so fresh feeling"? Ever heard a commercial telling a dude his junk stinks? Me neither.
I'm a proud homemaker. I know how to use my appliances and paper towels. lollll I get excited about getting a new blender, mixer or vacuum. Can't help it.
We don't watch television (just movies and the such), so we don't see a lot of these ads. But when we do, we laugh. Such horseshet.
And those "not so fresh feeling" commercials make me laugh too. If you're not so fresh, try taking a shower....Also, the cologne commercials that show some guy who sprays on a scent and automatically he's a babe magnet. lol.
I have no clue why everybody is getting all uppity. I don't believe it was stated here that a career woman is intrinsically better than a SAHM. I never felt that way. I have however said that I would strongly discourage a woman from giving up financial dependence due to the fact that the laws have changed so drastically and there is little financial protection for a woman who has been out of the work force for many years raising children.
As for Carlin, if you believe that, then clearly feminism is lost on you. If middle class white women don't care about the plight of any other woman with a different skin color, then explain to me why is it that women (gasp....white middle class women) brought to the worlds attention female genital mutilation and breast rolling....two decidedly "none white" womens issues? Nevermind that we continue to fight for womens rights globally (me in Mexico) both with our voices, time and wallets. Never saw Carlin care much except when Comedy Central was filming him, Whoopi and Billy to raise funds for homeless people. After the cameras stopped rolling he most certainly took hoards of homeless men, women and children to his mid town Manhattan 46th floor apartment, right? Ever seen it? I have. He sure took NIMBY to a whole new level while of course pointing a crooked finger at everybody else.....particularly white middle class women.

It is relevant to the issue of gender roles and that relates to feminism's equaling of said gender roles, which was the movement's point, and it is also the point of a discussion such as this. One can take issue with it simply being a commercial, and that is his/her prerogative. Images (print or TV) are important messages, whether it be burning bras, the adult film industry, dad moms or even going back to Annie's "Anything you can do, I can do better." Many points on how media relates to this were discussed earlier in the thread.
