Re: Again and again and again...

My condolences to our brothers and sisters in Nice. France is one more time under attack by ISIS. What a sad world we live in.

But that's probably the American in my talking. The culture in France is probably not one where people think having a gun could be normal.
If citizens carry guns, how do the police make the difference between good guys and bad guys? In a highly confused situation like that one, no one has any clues to how many terrorists there are. We know now that there was only one, but there could have easily been several.

French culture does not accept armed citizens with minimal background checks and minimal weapons training. This is a good thing.

It's too bad this thread couldn't have maintained the original tone of primarily sympathy and support and this type of completely off-topic comment reserved for a separate thread.

Somehow I knew it wasn't some white Christian gun nut. Since its not PC to use "Islamic Terrorist" can we settle on "the usual suspects"?

Where it should be because there's no way it wouldn't turn political. But the thread can still maintain some topic integrity and new threads for completely different topics like gun control. Anyway...out of respect for the tragedy and thread I'll back out.

Sympathy and support for the victims and families for certain. But there is going to be an element of, "lets drill down to the real problem and point out what caused this tragedy " in a effort to stop this sort of thing. If it were a tornado that struck, the responses would take on a different flavor.

Many of the victims were children.
I cannot imagine the hurts those parents are going through right now.

It reported that is was a government vehicle on Sky News last night.
Nothing about it today??

I’m not sure if this is true, but last night I read that the driver of the truck had things like assault rifles, hand grenades, and perhaps bombs in the truck.

I think you are right that the average person in France does not have guns today. It’s my understanding that in WWII, a large percentage did. And this is partially how they were able fight off the German invaders. (Yes they had a lot of help from the USA. But a lot of French also fought in the Resistance.)

I'm not going to be shamed for what I posted. Every single thread about a terrorist attack in the USA almost immediately has posts saying that the only reason it happened in the USA is because we allow people to own guns.

Those threads almost immegately take a left turn from the topic of concern and sympathy for the victims. After all why waste a tragedy right?

My point is a very important one. We do still have free speech.

Do you like on the thread for the cops killed in Dallas? Too bad some were not this concerned on keeping that one on the topic of sympathy for the victims (the cops). The gun control crowd went there almost immediately.

The same for every thread about a terrorist attack in the USA.

Re: Again and again and again...

There is a grieving and loss forum maybe a thread should be started over there for the folks who don't want to talk politics.

True.

Much like the thread on the murder of 5 good and brave men in Dallas. No memorializing the spirit of love that surely moved these good men to protect people who likely saw them as the enemy.

My magic wand would remove shame from sexuality for all! Anon Pink
