Speculation on what to expect now

So what are your guesses as to what really happens now, sky-is-falling aside?

The ACA is clearly toast - they've been trying to do this for a while. Will we go back to the problem of uninsured millions that it attempted (with certainly mixed results) to help, or will Ryan and Co. come up with an actual plan that does a better job?

We get a new Supreme Court justice, probably in the mold of Scalia.

I'll have to do some research on what exactly to expect for the budget. History would indicate that talk of fiscal responsibility isn't necessarily backed up with actions, but hey, surprise me.

Planned parenthood is probably a good target for the chopping block. Maybe NPR has to finally go fully self-funded.

Any activity on climate change will clearly get stuffed in a drawer, to be forgotten.

What else?

I expect very little change to the overall policies.

Raked by machine gun fire.

If you hurry, you can probably get in on the 8th annual "Obama is coming for your guns" sale.

Bankruptcy. That seems to be something he's really good at.

To Do List from theburningplatform.com

1) Build wall
2) Deport Hollywood a$$holes to Canada
3) Give a big f**k you to CNN, MSNBC, and the rest of the left wing media
4) Fire Janet Yellen
5) Sick your Attorney General on the Clintons and Obamas
6) Cut my taxes

Realistically, the U.S. is a poison chalice to any President at this point. We're ungovernable and serious economic problems will emerge during this next 4 years.

About the only thing keeping the ship afloat is the fact that we don't have a parliamentary government. Otherwise, ungovernable would probably be an understatement.

Re: Speculation on what to expect now

based on what DT stated in his acceptance speech, I expect ACA is toast, but replaced by something that actually works at a reasonable cost and is sustainable.

I export border security to be enforced, which will likely mean a wall on the southern border. I hope he can figure out immigration, in general, so that the route for those wishing to come here and become citizens is streamlined. Make it harder to be an illegal, and easier to be a legal. that is why it is such an issue now, easier to be a hidden illegal than to become a legal.

I expect he will try to get rid of a lot of red tape that government gives us. And attempt to get us out the Middle East.

Past that, not sure. I don't think his naysayers really have anything to say he will 'suck' because. We really don't know, either way, other than the stuff he is on record saying. ACA, border security, get America back to work and get us out of wars was essentially his platform.

It's anyone's guess. The man talks out of his ass and mouth at the same time. I wouldn't be surprised if he appointed pro choice SCOTUS replacements and doubled down on NAFTA. I also wouldnt be surprised if he started a war and attempted to jail MSNBC journalists.

Yeah, I could see that, too.

Re: Speculation on what to expect now

Roe v. Wade is settled law and it would be political suicide to attempt to overturn.

Abortions are NOT going away and frankly, I don't think Trump gives a sh!t about the issue.

It doesn't make him money so why would he care to try to change it?!? Same thing with gay rights...

NAFTA on the other hand, is a fiscal issue and he WILL try to get rid of it along with the RIDICULOUS trade deficits that are bankrupting the US.

That's good for the economy and in turn good for him AND us.

.
I totally agree. I don't see where this fear is coming from? It is irrational, at best.

I hope you are right! But Roe v Wade has been chipped away by several states already. The SCOTUS struck down the restrictions that abortion be outpatient only if the doctor has admitting privileges, or that outpatient clinics where abortions are performed have hospital level equipment on hand. They did not strike down the waiting times, the transvaginal ultrasound, or the mandatory counseling on adoption options and BC options...because a rape victim really needs to know how to prevent an unwanted pregnancy!
