Re: Flag Burning

I think you missed my point...

Be careful in how/what you want enforced, in order to suit your desires.

wouldn't a cigarette technically be an open burn in a public place within a city?

Either way, I don't care much about burning a flag. It has no impact on me. It doesn't bother me. It doesn't make me support anyone's position any more than idiots at Trump rallies doing/saying equally stupid things and embarrassing other conservative people. It's just another vessel to shine spotlights on idiots.

I guess one could argue that cigarettes are open burn. However, not quite the wicks of flames as seen from burning cloth. The cigarettes are getting more so socially unacceptable. Some place do no allow even the cigarettes burning. Gas stations for example. Although I have seen that ignored....

Re: Flag Burning

right. I was bored and had some free time at work to be deliberately obtuse.

Either way, there are real problems to worry about. This isn't one of them, and the fact that PEOTUS feels it necessary to make it an issue is beyond stupid.

But, take that burning cigarette butt and throw it into certain areas and it's against the law. Those butts are known to start brush and forest fires.

Re: Flag Burning

The Supreme Court says that symbolic 'speech' is protected. What other forms of symbolic speech are protected--other than flag burning and stomping?

It is illegal to toss butts out the window or drop them on the ground. It is littering in the direct sense in every state. More so dangerous littering as a fire could start. If one is found to have started a fire from a butt they can be charged.

None that I'm aware of. Book burning(depending on the book) perhaps.

I don't know guy, for many it is not stupid. For many there are family members in cemeteries that got there by the very act of fighting for freedoms to burn a flag and we can sit on our every expanding arses debating it on a forum.

What makes you presume my family and myself haven't participated? This is the exact freedom that we fight for...

Did not presume anything nor is it written that I presumed that your family has not participated. There is no other way to say some have died for these freedoms is there? I said for "many". You were not singled out.

Effigy is usually an individual. Symbolic so maybe.
