Change comes from the top.
The word is that her father asked for people to not bring flowers to the funeral, but to donate to Weitblick Freiburg eV which is an anti-deportation organization fighting to keep the migrants there.
I don't speak german, and I haven't confirmed it. Wouldn't surprise me though. People are often more interested in virtue signalling than they are in actual virtues.

Funny how it's women -- Merkel and the ex mayor of Cologne - who were willing to make that sacrifice.
I think your radio commentator is incorrect:
This is what you get when you import barbarians, who have nothing in common with you, who believe in child rape, who believe in child brides, who believe it is moral to attack and rape and enslave and kill the Kafir (unbelievers), who are in every way incompatible with your society and believe in enforcing their values onto the people trying to "help" them.
It is indeed sad that women with a platform and power, like Merkel, would betray their people to signal publicly that they are virtuous, while their countrymen pay the price of their decisions.
