Re: Trump is such a Tweet!

Well, I have more confidence in our democracy than that.

What is going to wake people up about Trump, and about Republicans in general, is when people find themselves without health insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, or possibly Social Security. When his voters are completely impoverished, then they will see the light.

I just hope the rest of us can hang on in the meantime.

One of the deepest feminine pleasures is when a man stands full, present, and unreactive in the midst of his woman's emotional storms. When he stays present with her, and loves her through the layers of wildness and closure, then she feels his trustability, and she can relax. -- David Deida, The Way of the Superior Man

I do think you have a point here JLD. Many Americans have given up on self-reliance and have come to believe they have a right to other people's stuff. This is what generally causes the final decline of "democracy"--and why we should have pressed harder to defend republicanism. Once a people realizes life is easier if you just "vote" to take stuff from others and give it to yourself, we move from a system of rights and rule of law, to one of highwaymanship, mob rule, and tyranny.

Hersch, I agree to the extent its damaging because people are conditioned to mindlessly accept words and phrases designed by so called "news outlets" to flatter some people and ideology, debase others and otherwise conceal reality.

If you don't embody controversy, what you say will become just another part of the media driven culture of stifling thought and debate about issues.

Reliance my elder behind. I've payed into social security for three plus decades, maxed out for a while now, and I'm somehow a leech for expecting some of this money back?

Donald J. Trump ‏@realDonaldTrump
Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to......

Donald J. Trump ‏@realDonaldTrump
mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. All talk, talk, talk - no action or results. Sad.

Whether you agree with John Lewis, it amazes me how Trump is all talk yets complain about others. Everything he complains about, he did to other people. He is telling anyone that disagrees with him they are either fake or to stfu. Are you kidding me?

I'd take Trump over Pence any time of the day or night .. at least people in other rust belt states are ambivalent to some extent. Pence, by virtue of his state's apathetic red electorate, has really done them in.

We'll see...

You can fake outrage all you want. We all know that money is spent, and that there's nothing to get back. There is only robbery from the next generation. I've paid in since I was 16, and I don't expect to receive anything back.

Don't get me wrong, you'd be a fool not to take it if it's offered. But expecting it--or even worse, demanding it--is a terrible thing indeed! "How dare someone else's children not pay for my SSI Checks? Why, I paid for some other guy's when I was their age!" Yes, you did. But that doesn't entitle you to someone else's work, it merely means you were robbed. Being the victim of highwaymen and fraud doesn't give you license to perpetuate it on random people who had nothing to do with your situation.

PS, I wouldn't use the term leech. I would use the term locust. It's much more apt. John, you seem smart enough to have put away something reasonable for retirement, so I doubt locust describes you. Just voracious.

Isn't that the general truth of the Left? Preach tolerance, and project all of their own shortcomings and negative traits onto their opposition as a cover for their violence, intolerance, and generally backwards ways?

If you don't agree with the Left, death is at your door

Re: Trump is such a Tweet!

I've put away plenty plus have a nice pension after sticking with the same company all my career. But after 32 years of paying into the system I got a decent chunk of dough on paper . I don't 'demand' it.

No, you are demonstrably wrong.

(CBO) has estimated that over fiscal years 2013 through 2022, the ACA will reduce the deficit by $109 billion. Which is why the idiotic repeal of the ACA will increase the deficit by 353 billion over ten years.

Summary of the Trustees Reports on the Social Security & Medicare Trust Funds shows that if left completely alone (which will never happen), there is more than enough money to keep it going for 40 years. Of course it will be changed, but perpetuating the LIE that it is going broke is ridiculous.

What we need to stop doing is using the Social Security surplus (2.7 trillion surplus in 2011) to fund tax cuts for the 1%.

In youth it was a way I had, to do my best to please, And change, with every passing lad to suit his theories.

You realize that there is no "Trust Fund" and that the money is gone right? It doesn't mean there is no income. But that it is spent as soon as it comes in. The CBO projects that the revenue will be insufficient in 12 years.

The "tax cuts for the 1%" aren't the problem. Spending SSI on the General Budget is. SSI is the single largest expense in the budget. It alone makes up ~25% of spending.

What you are engaging in is sophistry at best and outright deceitful. You might be better off peddling misinformation to people who are gullible, and incompetent / poor enough to not have access to the internet. They might actually fall for it.

Ehem, SSI may be a big ticket item in the budget but people are paying into it...
