Boycotting A Movie Over Personality Disorder ...

Yup, this is the world we live in ... M. Night Shyamalan is coming out with a new movie "Split" and some people want to boycott b/c the villain suffered from Multiple Personality Disorder.

I mean, If you want to boycott the movie b/c M. Night's films have sucked, I get that. But here we go again, snowflakes getting upset over a fictional horror movie ....

Quote:
Is all publicity good publicity? M. Night Shyamalan probably hopes so, because his new psychological thriller Split is getting attention for all the wrong reasons. Split stars James McAvoy as Kevin, a man who kidnaps three teenage girls and keeps them locked in a bunker under a zoo for reasons unknown. Kevin suffers from an extreme case of Dissociative Identity Disorder (a.k.a. Multiple Personality Disorder) — playing host to 24 different personalities. The plot seems to revolve around Kevin's inability to control his personalities, revealing them to be working together in order to unleash something only referred to as "The Beast."
Quote:
Since the trailer came out last summer, #Split's premise has caused concern for mental health advocates, who argue that the film's premise further promotes negative and unhealthy opinions of mental health and Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). It is also argued that the trailer evokes transphobic values, thanks to a moment when we see one of Kevin's (possibly female) personalities donning heels and a dress.

People are really stupid.

People don't get a free pass to cheat just because their marriage sucks.

I saw the previews for that one. Looked creepy. I'm getting so tired of the politically correct police anymore. Everyone gets so offended about everything and people can cater to it.

I remember the same thing happened with "Me, Myself and Irene" the Farrelly Brothers comedy about a state trooper who suffers a psychotic break that results in a split personality. Lots of people being offended by it for the same reasons. It's humor people. Don't take it so seriously.

Turns out Split was #1 at the box office this week (I think around $40mm which would be considered a big success)

Umm... this actually makes sense, if you take transfolk serious. See the trans gender thread.

You can't say someone is mentally deranged, because all is relative. There is nothing fixed. No good. No bad. No "normal" or "abnormal". All is taste.

Do you hear the people sing / Lost in the valley of the night?
It is the music of a people / Who are climbing to the light.
For the wretched of the earth / There is a flame that never dies.
Even the darkest night will end / And the sun will rise...

Think that I'll stay out here at the ranch and clean out my sock drawer! That movie looks like it would give me "the willies!"

Exactly. Why can't anyone just think to themselves "I don't want to see that."
Why is so much thrown into the public eye for attention? Who cares?!?! Don't go see the movie!!!!!

I think some of these people would complain how their city water makes them pee twenty seconds sooner than the water in their last neighborhood did. "Live at five, is your water forcing uriniary problems? A community in shock! Richard Polerod reports live from the area!"

Barf.

It's beyond me why we have to have movies like this in the first place

Well a psychological thriller is one thing but some movies are designed to just plain scare the hell out of you.

Yeah. Some people like that. My niece loves the "jump out of your seat" moments. I like a good rollercoaster.

Re: Boycotting A Movie Over Personality Disorder ...

Is the twist at the end the multiple personality guy saves us from aliens? Cause you know "fate" somehow knew we would need all of them some day to defeat aliens? Swing away Merril or some sh!t like that?

But seriously, I believe political correctness is at its core a good thing. But leave it some to f@ck anything up. To take it too far.

Plus the arts should be kind of exempt from the PC police. How else are artists, musicians, poets etc supposed to make a point sometimes? If the overzealous PC police existed years ago, Mel Brooks would likely have been run out of town. Or even more famous. Not sure.

I'm with you, I'll take the rollercoaster over the movie.

Re: Boycotting A Movie Over Personality Disorder ...

M. Night has truly sucked with his movie offerings but aren't there real issues to get upset about today?

Movies about someone losing it and reeking havoc or terror are not new.

This sounds like it may have a supernatural element to it as well.
