I agree my situation would not be common but is not unheard of.You are very proud of your daughters and rightly so,they are a credit to you.I am of the opinion that the female of the species, given the same opportunities is smarter than the male. When I was in school we had IQ tests and the little girl who sat next to me scored 161.That is one point higher than Stephen Hawking or Einstein. She was 11.
She could have gone on to do anything she wanted,if I told you what she ended up doing you could probably guess who she is.Like me she never went to college, found something she loved doing and makes a fortune. We talk frequently and we occasionally meet. Her company, which she owns completely made 584 million dollars profit last year.I don't think her lack of paper qualifications worries her too much.

Re: Common Core

Two problems with the above approach...

First, confusing money with accomplishments. To quote Steve Jobs, "do you want to sell sugared water all your life or do you want a chance to change the world?". Making money is not difficult. Walking into a Best Buy and pointing to a cool gadget that I helped design... That's more my thing.

Second, it's our friend the availability heuristic. The odds of someone without formal education doing such and such are smaller than them being drafted into pro sports.

I know two people from my birth country that made it big in America without formal education. One was a successful building contractor specialized in plaster and lathe work. Few people know how to work this... The other worked in Hollywood as a cartoon voice over artist...

If you walk down any street in any city you will see things that she designed.I think a lot of people would disagree with you about the making money part though.
