Is God everywhere?

Is God everywhere all of the time?

if I were to hide in a cupboard at the same time as someone else was hiding under a table in another country. Would God see both of us hiding at the same time, or would God only see one of us, or none of us because we were both hiding?

Re: Is God everywhere?

Can't we have just 1 god thread at a time?

Now I see him everywhere.

Re: Is God everywhere?

God has the ability to perceive everything. That is different than being everywhere. But here is the very tricky bit. Some of us believe that god can see the end and the beginning, in other words he can perceive all time at once.

Re: Is God everywhere?

And here is the Rub. The rub of salt that has not the Intrinsic Sweetness of Truth.

You are giving GOD eyes. That means he has a face, ears, a sense of touch, smell and taste.

You just lowered GOD down ten notches, or so.

You are describing human attributes. This is Anthropocentrism:
.................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ...
noun.

A viewpoint or theory that places human beings at the center of something, giving preference to human beings above all other considerations.
.................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ....
Humanity? Here today, gone tomorrow in a puff of dust. We are "one" of his expressions, not HIS only one.

I am perfectly aware that in order to describe something unknown, something esoteric, you must use the words in your language and in a language usage that others can understand. Pure speculation on our part.

Hell, if people cannot understand my perfect English using tortured logic [on TAM], how is it we could ever understand the concept of GOD.

Normally, it is done using Analogy and Psalms, Stories. What was remembered, heard or re-constituted using old Texts.

Re: Is God everywhere?

This post triggered a true story.

Reminds me of the movie, "The Sixth Sense", when when young Cole Sear said he saw Dead People everywhere.

After seeing the movie, my youngest daughter, quipped, "Dad, I see Dumb People everywhere". We all had a belly laugh, after that.

I had to keep checking to see if she was looking at us when she said this!

Nope, she wasn't.

Later that day, she was looking at a map of Southern California and mumbling something about some light haired lady.

Re: Is God everywhere?

The best explanation I have ever heard to explain this is that God is "outside" time. Therefore He is not constrained by our time/space dimensions.

For anyone looking for answers to these sort of questions I highly recommend CS Lewis' Mere Christianity.

This is perhaps the problem.

If we consider God to be human, then no.

If we consider God to be more than human -and he would have to be, in order to be a God- then concepts of what he can or cannot do, would fail to have any relevance.

He knows everything instantly so there's no hiding

Re: Is God everywhere?

When I was young, I asked my mom the same thing.

She gave a very simple answer. It still makes sense.

No matter what you do, you cannot hide it from God.
When God asks you something, you will not be able to lie. So God does not need to watch you as you are watching yourself.

This coming from an atheist, God would see both of you and say "Wow, look at these weirdos trying to hide from ME!"

How small are you to fit in a cupboard?

Good things come to those who wait...greater things come to those who get off their a$$ and do anything to make it happen.

I'm going to continue to use Star Trek references on these God threads because they work so well.

No starship can ever reach warp 10. That's the unreachable cosmic speed limit. It's works exponentially.

So that's why on the show it's always warp 9.X or warp 9.9X when they're speeding into danger. Never 10.

In a nut shell, if a ship ever hit Warp 10. They would occupy every point in the universe simultaneously.

According to his word, we are, however, created in his image. That implies having a face, ect.
