I thought they were the 6th, but you may be right.

And yes, it would be easy for Trump to put a stop on government grants and subsides to California universities, businesses and local governments...

What would the fallout for doing that be? I don't know.

I don't like Trump. But I didn't like Obama either. I didn't vote for Obama, but you know what? When he was elected I wished him the best and hoped he would do great things (other than Obamacare). He failed miserably of course, but I still wished him well. I wish Trump well also, although I am wary.

The Hilter narrative is getting tiresome.

I'm not sure where CA stand but it is up there. Trump will never stop Fed assistance to CA. Can't afford it. CA can't afford to lose Fed assistance. Just political posturing.

But one more time, what we are seeing now is not really new. These occurrences have happened in the past. The only difference is....we get to see it instantly on our computers or phones. We get to see it from handfuls of sources. Before, not so much but front page news in the paper thrown on your lawn before sunrise.

I believe the real concern is not civil war and succession of states, etc. It is another larger more bold terrorist attack.

Desalination works for other places.

The military has desalination equipment if I'm not mistaken.

No, militant progressives do a pretty good job of that violence themselves as the rioting displays... and it's interesting that the many who promote our current president as "hitleresque" are the ones who would use such an approach if their numbers allowed it.

I'll give him a couple years before I make an assessment just like I did for our former president... maybe by then the journalist will find the right balance or either mindfulness or medication!

Still... some states could split and succeed becoming two in my opinion. The west coast is a prime example of a nation with far different interests with Western WA, OR, and NORCAL much more aligned with ID and MT.

I believe Eastern Washington wants to call themselves "Liberty".

Northern California probably wants to call themselves "Sanity".

It takes enormous amounts of power. California would have to pump all its crude oil reserves just to keep up with the demands of the power stations supplying the desalination plants.

Oh, but then they would have to build more refineries. Oh, but... California cannot have refineries! That would be almost immoral.

Well I agree. What I said was...he can do it if he wants. But you are right, he won't.

That's called taxation... which they seem to be pretty fond of, actually.

Also think about how thoroughly their economy will collapse once the embargo begins.

And I wonder what kind of standing army or navy they'll have to enforce or protect... well, anything.

Well that is all it would take really...an embargo. Shut off everything going in.

Read up senator Wyden's report decades ago about refinery closings - and related Enron death star tactics - to understand what's going on.

Re: America: A Failing Marriage

Getting back to the marriage....

I just don't know how progressives and conservatives are ever going to get together and play nice. It has gotten so toxic. I cannot imagine spending another decade or two or three having to endure this vitriol. Something has to give socially, economically or politically. We simply, as a society, cannot keep dragging this on the way it is going.

Re: America: A Failing Marriage

Anyway, you're spot on w/ that initial post, Bandit.

And it's social media that feeds the frenzy -- it's so much easier to denigrate people of an opposite viewpoint when you can dehumanize them, and it's easier to do that w/o any sort of meaningful, face-to-face interaction or calm, reasoned exchange of ideas.

The relative anonymity of the Internet (even when sharing your name) fuels all of this.

No accountability, hence no civility.

And while we're at it, it would behoove people interested to also read up on the California Water Wars. That fraudulent sh!t is still going on today. It's like the movie Chinatown
except it is really happening with all of California's resources.
