Re: Therapists who need therapy themselves

Therapists are human and some might very well need therapy themselves. Psychoanalysts are typically encouraged to be in psychoanalysis themselves to be aware of issues such as transference and countertransference, etc.
In any event, therapists are also trained to be careful to keep their biases in check as to prevent t such biases from negatively affecting their ability to provide the best care for their clients.
Now when it comes to politics I imagine it must be difficult to work with a client that has completely opposing views to their own but again this is why they are professionals. Therapists are given opportunities to process their own feelings via supervision or therapy for themselves. A good therapist should have greater awareness of how their own biases may influence their ability to remain professional and to provide the best service for their clients.
