Thats not important. What is important is that you can argue your position with integrity, and if this is one of your big issues - cast your vote accordingly.
Majority rules? Not so fast. Thats why we have things like the bill of rights and the separation of powers in government that says the Majority certainly does NOT rule.
Yes of course the bill of rights was voted by majority, as was the constitution - but if that is your stance - you are simply chasing your own tail and misunderstnd the type of government we have. It is not a pure democracy procedurally - it is a democratic representative republic.
Dont abandon your integrity because some politician says something stupid. Letting fools coast is negligence at best - really.. it makes you an accomplice in the crime.
Don't get me wrong - I'm all for open debate and the voicing of one's opinion. I just don't see the benefit of debating anything with a pandering hypocrite. I've seen something to the effect of, "Never argue with a fool, they will only bring you down to their level and then beat you with their years of experience" written several times and it kind of sums up how I feel about it. Unfortunately these fools are running the country.
First off we're never going back to the moon. In a few years when the ISS is decommissioned, manned spaceflight will be over but for a few Richard Branson type tourists and the odd national pride program from China, India and Japan. In my grandchildren will think of our stories of manned spaceflight as myth. We tried it, didn't like it that much and now it's done.
We're no longer an explorer culture. We're no longer inquisitive and we're not stretching out any more. We're turning culturally autistic. I can't find a single person under the age of 30 who's not an engineer who sees any value in space science let alone going there to do it.
But it's not all bad because we're getting stupider and more ignorant anyhow. It won't be such a bad thing when our descendents are too stupid ever try again. We won't know what we no longer know and we won't care. Evolution ends with us and our future looks more and more like monkeys howling at the black sky.
Anyone read "A Canticle for Liebowitz"? It's going to be a documentary.

Wow. I completely do not agree.
Man as a species is making great strides .. thankfully it isn't just engineering. From biomechanics to physics, materials science, genetics, ecology... It goes on and on. The question, is if we have the wisdom to tame the genies we release. Computer science... art, literature...eegads man. It's not all about the merits of American Idol.
I am a cynic, but friend... You are taking it to en entire new level. Posted via Mobile Device

What you described is about self preservation though. I agree with Runs. We no longer value exploring if it doesn't directly benefit us. My son is an Engineering major and he sees the value in it. His friends however do not. They ARE the next generation.
This election the main issues are the economy, the economy, the economy and foreign policy (IMHO).
I don't think there is one person in the running on either side who is capable of doing what needs to be done. There is no vision in the whole lot of them put together.
While we have a good political system, it's come corrupt with corporate money and lobbying.
It's not that there are not good men/women out there who could run this country well and improve things. It's that the only people who dare run anymore are the ones who are purchased egotists and plastic like Obama and Romney, or the ones who are arrogant egotists like Gingrich.
While Gingrich’s personal life has been a bad soap opera, we have had many very good presidents whose personal morals have been in the gutter.. Kennedy is the first to come to mind on that one. And that’s not to say that Gingrich is a ‘very good’ presidential candidate.
Today only a fool would run for president since our press is more interested in destroying candidates to sell the ‘news’, then they are in reporting the person’s ability to run the country. And so we end up with a field of FOOLS running for office.
I wonder how all of our previous presidents would have fared under the scrutiny of today’s tell all attack press.
