North Carolina votes down gay marriages; any thoughts?
North Carolina just passed a bill banning gay marriages yesterday. And I feel if two people are a couple and have been together for a long time, and they wanna be able to share in things like medical and financial benefits and also make their relationship "official", then who the hell am I or anyone else to stand in the way of that and tell people what they're supposed to do.

Well, I think it's reactionary garbage and in 50 years will be seen as comparable to the situation before Loving v. Virginia -- but I also think this should be in politics, not in this section.

In their zeal to write this abomination of an amendment in such a way as to eliminate any wiggle room, it was also worded in such a way as to potentially invalidate any and all "domestic partnerships," whether the partners are the same gender or different genders. It's my understanding that the state government's benefits plan, until now, has recognized domestic partnerships. With this amendment, that could be a thing of the past. Posted via Mobile Device

My apologies to the members and staff of this site, and I only posted it there because it deals with both sex(orientation or not) and issues with being married.

Personally, I believe that homosexuality is a sin.
That being said, it is a personal opinion of mine, not a political one. I am sick and tired of our local, state, and federal government wasting time with same sex marriage and abortion.
Don't we have bigger, more pressing problems than individual bedrooms?
I was asked not long ago, "Well if you were running for office, how would your respond to questions on gay marriage and abortion?" I told the person, "In my first press conference, I would state that I am not homosexual and don't think it's right. I think abortion as a means of birth control is wrong."
After that, I would not entertain any questions or discussions regarding it.
I am tired of politicians and voters wasting time on this in America when we have so many unemployed people looking for work, the housing market is in the tank, and taxes are going higher to support an inflated, irresponsible government.

I think its sad that two humans who love each other cannot marry. I say if they can't marry, then heteros can't divorce...seeing as the only reason its not legal is for religious reasons. Posted via Mobile Device

I have perhaps more liberal views on marriage than most do in this country.
I think marriage is a religious and cultural institution.
The US Government is supposed to be a secular institution.
As such the Government should only deal with legal matters related to two people wanting to legally join finances, and rely on each other to make medical decisions for them in the case of incapacitation.
IMO Government should be 100% out of the licencing of marriages.

I don’t have a problem with gays getting married or having marital rights. I have gay friends and they are more morally sound then many in my humble opinion but, many including the church oppose it.
I used to have a real issue with the government again sticking their noses inappropriately. The real issue (or the one the conservatives are hiding behind is a legal matter. The major reason for creating the institution of marriage in many societies and all of the laws that surround that institution is to provide for procreation and subsequent support of the offspring etc. You can argue it being right, wrong unfair etc. but, to some degree marriage itself is unfair to other unmarried people gay or straight. I mean if I wanted to move in with a male non-sexual friend, piggy back his insurance and enjoy in some instances preferred tax preference isn’t that unfair to others that don’t do this. …..slipperly slope…what about to straight women who want to cohabitate?

I'm not surprised that NC voted against it at all. I don't agree with it the vote against it but the news did not come as a shock to me.
I have never understood why if something does not directly effect you (gays getting married or straights or whoever), then why is it any of your business? Makes no sense to me.
