Re: Men, women and the ability to see the whole picture

Not at all. Sorry if I gave that impression. Analogies are a useful illustrative tool and people who are gifted with words tend to use them a lot.

The logical fallacy occurs when the analogy...

Re: Men, women and the ability to see the whole picture

I agree. But people who in everyday speech and written composition regularly equivocate, generalize, hypostatize, invoke false dilemmas, incorporate circularities and false causes, inductively use...

Re: wife and Doctor - co-worker

My youngest is living at home (Working on a Masters) and working as a shift supervisor at a drugstore.

She brings home everything she's exposed to and we all get it. Personal contact is not...

Re: Impress us with your knowledge

It's a common misconception that day and night are of equal length at the Vernal and Autumnal equinoxes.

It would be true if the sun was a single pinpoint of light, but the sun actually appears...

Re: Men, women and the ability to see the whole picture

I guess it depends on what we mean by logic. If logic = what makes the most sense; is the most expedient, etc., then I'd agree that this is entirely subjective.

If we're talking about formal...

Re: Men, women and the ability to see the whole picture

I guess we could even argue that stars and other heavenly bodies are still external sources of information and still constitute directions.

..But my Garmin doesn't think less of me if I get lost...

Re: Men, women and the ability to see the whole picture

Smart phones and other GPS devices have almost eliminated the need to ask for directions. We can all go home happy. :p

Re: Men, women and the ability to see the whole picture

Without disagreeing with you, I'd be interested in hearing more. I've participated in Introduce A Girl To Engineering Day for years and that's certainly something we've been told that first hand...

You're absolutely right Catherine. --No disagreement.

In the context of this thread, (i.e. Ability to see the whole picture) those examples spoke more to the manner in which an LD person...

Thank you. I think you've hit the nail on the head as far as those three examples are concerned.

Yes. In many ways, that type of response reminds me of what I've heard come out of the...

Re: draft letter to wife: Female feedback appreciated

With respect, you're not talking about debate at all. Humans have clashed verbally since long before recorded history, but unfortunately, most of that has taken the form of rather low quality...

To my...

Re: draft letter to wife: Female feedback appreciated

I don't for the life of me know how such a 'debate' could be lost. People don't general debate objective fact like the sum of 2 and 2 or the...

Re: Men, women and the ability to see the whole picture

Slightly off topic, but a fascinating book that dovetails with this discussion is The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat by neurologist Oliver Sacks.

It's a collection of 24 short essays, each one...

Re: Men, women and the ability to see the whole picture

I think part of the problem is so many of the words that are employed to describe subtle differences between male and female mental perspectives have negative connotations in other contexts. Who...
