Well pick a small project that you can complete in an afternoon or something, and actually do it. Try not to act overly like its a play for attention, and watch the reaction from your wife as a simple and easy experiment.

Seeing by your own account you suck it at it, this is probably an area you can make quick and easy gains in. You don't have to turn into a general contractor and extend the house or anything huge, just complete some home maintanence stuff once in a while. You're metaphorically building a nest here. Crappy nest = low attention from females. Better nest = better attention from females.
