I realize that and was aware when I took the photo and again when publishing it... but it was in a public place, the child was doing nothing that would be considered controversial and there is no information included that could jeopardize the child's safety. This is a subject that every serious street photographer would have considered (not that I'm a serious street photographer), but I took it upon myself to decide the benefits of sharing this enjoyable image outweigh any complications, but if there are any complications I also will take full responsibility for publishing it.

You don't need permission to photograph children in public places in the US or UK. The parents that object need to learn to get over their concerns because if you are in public you can't argue a right to privacy. That's what public means, there is not an expectation of privacy. If the parents don't want a photo of the kids doing something in particular then they shouldn't let them do it in the first place The couple of states that have made laws to get permission will have the laws overturned as being unconstitutional when challenged.

That is my take on it too, but as a parent there have been times when at the park or in public strangers have taken the liberty of shooting images of my child (along with other children, or sometimes me with my child) and it is uncomfortable - it would be less uncomfortable if it was pictures taken if my child were doing something remarkable that was expected to gain some attention from strangers. The most uncomfortable was one time when a small group of photogs out on a photowalk decided to use their telephoto lenses to capture images from a long distance of me and my son as we were walking towards them on a narrow pedestrian bridge, and they continued to keep shooting like it was a session... halfway I had to put my hand up and walked in front of my son to signal to them "ok, enough". That verged on harassment, but they were just being enthusiastic photographers which I can relate to. I don't have a problem with them using an image of me or my son for their personal gallery, but hopefully since then they have learned to exercise more discretion and have gotten better at knowing their camera settings so the can get the shot quickly (like I did with the photo of that child in the spray park).

Re: If you dare, post pictures you took

But use common sense and be respectful. As I was leaving the car show (public no privacy expectation) a few weeks ago I saw a cute youngish couple. She was really hot and he was wearing a Snatch is Paleo t shirt. I asked if i could take their picture as I liked the t shirt. He respectfully declined, I put away the camera, and we laughed. But his gf did not look pleased with him

Sigh, my wife gives me the speaking treatment.

Hubby took this one of us. I cropped him out but I might just say Merry Christmas.

Really crappy cell phone shot (and my hands were shaking with the cold and excitement!), but...Yo Yo Ma! I got to see him with the Silk Road Ensemble at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley on Thursday and it was incredible!

And we are going to see him again in April when he plays the works of Bach in a trio. Chomping at the bit! Can't wait!

Also, just 'cause, took a night time shot of the Campanile. I know I am biased, but I love my alma mater and think it's a beautiful campus.

Long weekend in Amsterdam.

Yes, Amsterdam. Not California, or Hawaii, as this pic might suggest:

OK, that was Zandvoort, on the coast of Holland.

On to Amsterdam:

The green things, to the left of the fan, are cannabis lollipops!

The Hague, where the International Court of Justice is based. In this building, the Peace Palace.

(Big pic here: https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8769/2...f0d8748b_o.jpg)

Haarlem. The original Harlem! (where the area in New York got it's name)

And the bridge at Arnhem. Subject of the book/film "A Bridge too far". Which, as celebrated military fkup's goes, is up there with the charge of the light brigade, and Custer...

@DayOne, oh the memories. I recognize most of your pictures! The Netherlands is my favorite vacation spot but it's been a couple of years since I've gone. I feel the need for a return trip!

I have some good pictures myself, I need to find them and post.
