Re: TAMers who have gone "missing"...

There's a bunch of folks whose wisdom I appreciated who are no longer here.

I'm generally not one to name them... if anything I'm pleased they were able to find the 'exit' and hope they are doing well. Which I'm sure they are.

Re: TAMers who have gone "missing"...

This is the sort of place that it would be best to graduate from and move on. Although I am a firm believer many, including me, did not possess the skill set needed for long term success with marriage, clearly many of the mysteries can be solved and the skill set can often be learned and applied successfully. There are cases where that is not true because the circumstances or ability are not there.

Either way, it would be sad for someone to find this a permanent hangout instead of moving on to something allowing for continued growth and the successful pursuit of ongoing happiness. Interests and priorities change throughout healthy lives. Many here develop an expertise that will benefit others enormously for as long as they are willing to offer it but I am happy for those that have moved on to other pursuits as that is a vital ingredient for a satisfying life.

Fortunately their expertise can benefit many others via the search function. I for one, have acquired most of what I came for and turned my marriage around with skills learned here and elsewhere. I now stop by on occasion when I am stuck on something specific or want to help with situations I have overcome with new skill sets.

Like friends, they come and go as life moves along and our lives grow into one new chapter after another

Re: TAMers who have gone "missing"...

The regulars on the "What's For Dinner?" thread got me through the worst time of my life and really lifted my spirits. Yeah, I miss Charlie Parker too.

I've been on TAM for a long time, and there have been a few dramatic exits and others just faded away. Scuba Steve used to post awesome recipes, and I tried several. That Girl, Jellybeans, Caribbean Man ... just a few others who come to mind that I miss.

I refuse to make anyone a priority in my life who considers me nothing more than an option.

You can't start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading the last one.

Well, I haven't been roundly accused of being "gone" so much as perhaps being "dead!"

In reality, I think that perhaps I am dead! The problem with that is that I haven't exactly "laid down" yet!

Re: TAMers who have gone "missing"...

Agreed.

I enjoy reading TAM because after my relationship blew up and the process of getting there I realized I need to look at things from different angles and how to be more effective in communication. I've learned some things here that I wish I had known before and also have had questions in my head about why I keep reading. This place by it's nature is filled with some misery and the storylines repeat often.

It's probably a good thing that people disappear over time.

DevilsAdvocate had some pretty epic arguments. They were fun to read.

In fact, I think the arguments were usually between those two.

Devils Advocate made me tired. Too fricken wordy and full of B.S. The male version of a High Maintenance Broad.

Re: TAMers who have gone "missing"...

Too many good people gone for me to mention, even posters I didn't often see eye to eye with I miss. I think a forum needs all kinds, especially those that challenge our thinking or put us on the defensive at times. It reminds us of why we have the personal values we do.

"If you deliberately plan on being less than you are capable of being, then I warn you that you'll be unhappy for the rest of your life."

I haven't been on here in forever for a few reasons
- I lost the job I had where I could do basically whatever I wanted online for hours a day
- If I hung around on line anywhere it was on another smaller more intimate board
- My grandson was born in December 2014
- My marriage is doing pretty well

I came on today for the first time in ages because I'm at a new job with a bit of spare time today!

- A couple of posters came to TAM that I just could NOT stand, and I decided I'd rather just not be bothered to deal with them.

Now I am off to see if they're still here

People don't get a free pass to cheat just because their marriage sucks.
