So if paranoia and craving junk food makes you a safer driver, I should be getting a discount.

Being safer than drunk driving is not the same thing as being safer than sober driving.

Yes, if I had a choice between being on the road with a drunk driver or a pot smoker, I'd go with the pot smoker, but honestly, I'd much prefer a sober driver. Infinitely safer than either a drunk or stoned driver.

Oh Drowsy driving is the worst. I got pulled over for erratic driving once when my blood sugar was low. Guess I should have paid attention to those cravings. I have had a few Marijuana users work for me. There was no difficulty seeing when they had been using. Productivity dropped.

Because they drive 10 mph.

I sometimes go long periods without sleep, and this was by far the most dangerous thing I have engaged in. Driving while exhausted... I fell asleep at the wheel several times and wrecked once. The paramedics and firefighters couldn't believe I crawled out of the wreck (with only a sore shoulder), they thought someone had already moved the body.

Driving drowsy is stupid dangerous. Nowadays I'll pull over and take a 30 minute nap on the side of the road when I'm that tired. I look back in wonder at how dumb I must have been.

Nice argument, but to bad it has nothing to do with the article posted, which specifically stated that drivers with MJ in their system may actually be safer than all other drivers because of heightened awareness.

Yep. I've done this too. Was asleep with my eyes open. Don't even remember driving home. Frightening.

I support self-driving cars.

I wonder if fast food drive-throughs and convenience stores are actually behind the studies to boost revenue.

I always carry an "emergency" caffeinated drink with me to prevent this sort of thing; I drink it when I start feeling drowsy. Obviously that will only work to a certain extent, but for my usual 90 minute maximum drive from the big city to my house, it does the job pretty well.

Re: Why marijuana users are safe drivers

Yes, this is true for me, I'd rather be high when I'm driving, working on gas boilers and furnaces, refrigeration, air conditioning, or any other type of equipment doing repair, service or installation or while I'm breathing, sleeping, eating or pretty much all the time. It helps me to remain calm and patient and to get 'er done!

I found that when I'm high, I generally use my seat belt and follow the speed limits, weather permitting and am more aware of my surroundings. But when I'm not high, I find myself not wearing a seat belt, driving aggressively and passing cars at will with a touch of road rage at slow drivers and speeding in excess of 20 miles over and sometimes hitting speeds in excess of 100 mph. Yeah, it's a huge difference, one that for me was very real and very eye opening.

As far as staying awake while driving and tired, well, nothing has ever worked better than flower seeds, hard to beat for sure, give it a shot.

It has plenty to do with the article posted. They speculate that marijuana users are safer than other drivers, but the only actual research done was comparing drivers under the influence of Alcohol to drivers under the influence of Marijuana.

Speculation is not the same as hard data. I can argue with the speculation. I don't actually agree that driving stoned is in fact safer than being sober and alert. And there is no data (in that article) that suggests otherwise.

It's called critical thinking.
