Well, Americans didn't make it up. Y'all just don't know your own history.

I have not run across it in any English I've taught, but I'll tell you one thing, when I hear, "Wow! She's got big over the summer!" I cringe.

It should be "She GOT big..." or "She's gotten big..." Not "She's got big..."

well I would generally say 'she got big'
it just wouldn't cross my mind to say 'she's gotten big'

I would actually say 'f*ck me, she's clearly been at the cake'

and my A level history was modern European and American history - I'm crap at British history!!

Idea and ideal

STBXH always misused these two words.
Example: He would say he had an "ideal" when it should have been "idea".

I thought I had the "ideal" husband, but then I had an "idea" he was not "ideal"!

Well that one makes sense. You can kick someones ass.

You can also kiss someones ass, and not be a kiss-ass. I've jokingly done that with my wife many times (yeah I love plays on words what can I say).
