It depends. I have long weekends because I work 12 hour days for 3 days straight. Usually it's a mix of doing fun stuff, like kayaking, hiking or playing computer games combined with kid/household stuff.
For instance this weekend I went kayaking one day, the next I had to get ready for and celebrate my son's birthday, change the oil my cars and tomorrow I'm planning on going hiking and food shopping.
Next weekend I have a trip to see my daughter's colleges and a hike planned. Sometimes I play computer games and surf the web and when winter comes I hope to ski, snowshoe and hopefully get a night life again.
It's funny how little time you can have even when your weekends are long. I wonder why that is?
Ugh...that's my husband's week....5 twelve hour days. SUCKS!
But sounds like you know how to balance it all out!

Five 12 hour days I couldn't do but three 12 hour days works well for me. I make the same money as I did when I worked 5 and I save in gas because I don't drive as much. But those three days are tough. When I get home I'm not good for doing much of anything but sitting on the computer for a few hours and going to bed.
I couldn't have done this when my kids were younger but they are fairly self sufficient now so it's doible. Makes taking time off for my hobbies and trips better too.

We don't have routine with our weekends. And things just got switched up even more. So.... for the weekend just past, this is how we spent it:
Saturday morning we traveled into the city together. I had to work and H came along for the ride to keep me company and grab a coffee together beforehand Saturday night his/our friend came to our place for dinner and wine. We normally see him with his wife but she's currently overseas and we promised to make sure he was fed and had company while she was away. He lives an hour away, so he crashed in our guest room. Sunday morning we walked the dog and all went to a cafe. He went home around midday; hubs and I couched big-time then Sunday evening, my sexy hubby and I went to a music concert. We had a good time.
I try to get in a few hours of job-work on the weekend. I am also a landlord so there's sometimes things to fix. Then there's dogs to tend to. Stuff around the house. Sat my wife makes her round of calls to the family. That's pretty much the entire day. Get up late-ish, around 7am or so both days.
I try to cook a new dish every weekend. It's a lil hobby of mine. And I spend time with my family. I love to read and catch up on cleaning/laundry and will usually have a movie that I rent to watch. Sundays are my favorite day out of the entire week.
Sundays are my favorite day out of the entire week.
I hate Sundays....probably more than Mondays! I never feel like doing anything on Sundays and people are always making plans on Sundays, which pisses me off! Saturday is a MUCH better day to do stuff because you can sleep in the next day, but not on Sunday!
With Sunday, the next day is work and I always have things to do, like cleaning, shopping, running errands, etc. Then on Sunday night it's time to get ready for work/school. It sucks.
I tried taking Mondays off so Sundays wouldn't be so bad but I still hated Sundays so I decided to take Thursdays off instead. I love Fridays and Saturdays because you STILL have time off before work!

I know, I'm weird.
That's not weird, makes some sense to me. I don't like Saturdays because there's always so much to do. I work M-F 8-5 so we get to Saturday and the laundry is piled up etc. It's also the only day I can make hair appts and things like that, so I end up either running around all day or doing household chores. Then add the random wedding or birthday party that you really don't want to go to but feel obligated and you're left with no time to relax. I like Sunday best mostly because of sports. H and I are both huge football and drag racing nuts, and those are mostly on Sunday, so we've pretty much trained people that we don't really go out or do much on Sunday. We hibernate at home and watch our sports and relax with each other and then maybe have a family dinner. Pretty much the only day of the week we totally relax.
we try to keep weekends as cheap as possible, we have fun grocery shopping with coupons lol the cheaper things are the better! We can fish on weekends for 4 bucks(cost of bait) we all love that.. go to the park, cook something new at home, go visit family nearr by or friends.
The Michael Jackson game is fun. Some of them are hard! But it's fun even when lookin like a jackass. LOLLL
I love Sundays. It's the only day we have with Hubs. He has Tuesdays off too, but we're all at work and school. Sundays are family day around here. This Sunday we're putting up Xmas stuff and next Sunday we're getting new family portraits...our last ones were 2 Xmases ago.
Today, the kidlet and I went on a crunchy leaf walk (just stompin leaves around the neighborhood) and I did some chores...I'm making coffee right now because i bought some new creamer that I just MUST try. Big Kid is with my mom. lol. Better her than me.
I'll make dinner soon and Hubs will be home between 7:30 and 8...although I'm thinking 7:30 because there won't be the normal Friday traffic.
