Now I just try to make my running as intense as I can in that short period of time usually 20-35 min.
Hill running and interval training are where you can make big improvements fast. I'm not a running coach but I'd say that 3x25 min runs per week will do most people pretty good unless you're training for a HM or full marathon.

I'm lucky to get one run/week in at the moment plus an hour of 5-a-side.

6 Exercise Machines You Should Do Without

There's a number of exercises and exercise machines that can actually hurt you. I don't think many people know this, so they just do whatever they see others at the gym do.

Yeah that is the reason I aim for the sorter but intense interval running. It really does give my body a good workout, and I can feel my legs muscles getting that lovely exercise ache.

I hear you about the not getting enough time for a run.

I think whatever we are doing to keep fit is great. I workout in my bedroom for goodness sakes. lol I keep my weights under my bed and use my bed as a bar for some of my exercises.

Whatever works for you.

Sigh, my fiance and I were up late last night, because his shifts with being a cop are all over the place. :/ So I didn't sleep as well, but I really should go to the gym. Happy weekend, all!!

Thank you for saying that. You're right. It works for me. It keeps me going back so I guess that's what really matters.

Re: Exercise Motivation Thread

25 mile bike ride today at 12 mph. Not bad, a bit chilly early in. Nice collection of bodies on the trail. Will try for 30 miles tomorrow. Getting to the edge of what a leisure hybrid bike can do, but with serious tuition next year not sure I can upgrade...

Re: Exercise Motivation Thread

That's a nice clip, @john117. 25 to 30 miles is a great ride!

My workout today was very good, came away feeling accomplished. Ran 4 miles with my fiance, added some speed work into it, but mainly steady pace. Then, he wanted to do some bw exercises, push ups, planks, bw squats, bear crawls (horrible), burpees (horrible), and duck walks (not horrible, but not fun lol).

Then made us a delicious protein shake:

3 Tablespoons of unflavored Greek Yogurt
1 cup of frozen mangos
1/2 banana
1 scoop strawberry protein powder
4 ice cubes
1/2 cup water

Blend and yum!

Re: Exercise Motivation Thread

The only bummer is that we are limited by the trails - I don't ride in the streets, not with a hybrid bike lolz. The trails are often crowded but they are also shaded so it's good riding.

This was another ho-hum cycling season, spring was wet and windy, wet or hot summer, and now that the weather is settling it gets dark early

If Europeans had to put up with USA Midwestern weather bikes would have never been popular there...

I work in law enforcement too and know all about his crazy shifts. We do rotating 12's. If I didn't workout, then I'd be an obese mess like many in this career.

Re: Exercise Motivation Thread

I've been in the competitive bodybuilding scene since I was 18 and am now 42 years old. It's become a lifestyle for me and no of no other way to live. I work rotating 12-hour shifts and they can be hard on one's body. If it weren't for working out and eating healthy, I'm sure I would look and feel older than I am. Thank goodness I'm almost done with this career and can get a pension soon. I work with many who don't exercise and it definitely shows. Sad.
Anyway, for those of you who are into weight training, here's my split:

Monday: Shoulders, triceps, abs
Tuesday: Back
Wednesday: Cardio
Thursday: Chest, biceps, abs
Friday: Cardio
Saturday: Legs
Sunday: Rest or cardio

Yea, it's a bit rough some weeks.

That's what my fiance says too, that there's a lot of guys who he works with, that let themselves go, and he doesn't want that to happen to him. Thing is, it doesn't just ''happen,'' it takes effort to be fit. I love the lifestyle and so does he, so that helps. It has to become a lifestyle.

I went to your page there, and your hard work definitely shows, nice job! It's cool you've been in shows.

I have a question, what do you think about protein supps? My fiance thinks they're a waste of money, and that whole foods are better, which I totally agree with the latter part, but don't think they're a waste of money really because if I have nothing prepared, it makes for something quick to have before or after a workout.

Re: Exercise Motivation Thread

I dropped my workouts from 6 per week to 4 earlier this year. Crazy thing is that I find it much more difficult completing the 4 day rotation than the 6.

Here is this week's 4 day workout

Tues - Back
Weighted Pull Ups, in my case less/more assist - 5, 10, 5, 20, 5, 30 - 1 rep set every 5 minutes
Bentover Row - 3 sets of 12 - 1 rep set every 2 minutes
Abs - Superset Situps/Back Extensions - 4 sets of 30 each - 1 rep set every 2 minutes

Wednesday - Tabata
20 sec work / 10 sec rest - 8 rounds - TRX Pullups, Jump Rope, Jack Knifes, Ball Thrusters, Extra Rest

Friday - Legs/Shoulders
21-15-9 - Alternate Overhead Squat and Pullups
Metcon - 10 minutes - TRX Pullup (15), Jump Squat (10), Good Morning (20)

Saturday - 5K Trail Run

Re: Exercise Motivation Thread

Ran a little over 5 miles today, on the slower side, just wanted to keep it going. I did some yoga afterwards, for about 15 minutes. I feel like I have a pinched nerve in my neck, not fun. Hopefully, it won't last long.

Hope u all enjoy the week coming up!

Re: Exercise Motivation Thread

Another 25 miles cycling today. I feel I was run over by an SUV and then some... Headwind is a BAD thing...
