Exercise Motivation Thread

There have been a few exercise/workout threads scattered around, but never really seems to gain any traction. Thought I would take a crack to see if we could actually get one that sticks.

The idea of this thread would be for members to talk about everything exercise/workout related. Anything from success stories, current workout regimen, tip, meal strategies (I prefer not to use the word diet), interesting articles, horror stories (letting one rip while doing leg presses ...), motivation, etc... Hopefully members here can post some good information, keep each other motivated, or help answer questions from others.

When I have a few I will post up some stuff, but wanted to get this started before I forgot.

Until then, stay safe out there and don't be these people!!!

Re: Exercise Motivation Thread

Nice thread!

I'm into cross fit and running, mainly. Haven't worked out today, but yesterday, ran about 4 miles - and then did BW exercises, such as push ups, core work, wall sits, and jumping squats. (not holding any weight, just BW)

Re: Exercise Motivation Thread

My workouts revolve around a combination of Powerlifting and BB style training. Always focus on the big 3 (Squats, Bench, deadlift) but with a lot of volume and additional accessory work. Did a PL meet this summer, not sure if I will do another one.

Today was supposed to be my squat workout, but have really pushed myself hard the last few weeks and my legs were beat up, so just got some light squats and accessory work in. I still have squatting to do Wednesday and Saturday.

I started incorporating Tabata at the end of my workouts for HIIT cardio, and can see results:

Also, on off days I have been walking about 2-3 miles

Re: Exercise Motivation Thread

I normally aim to workout 5 days a week, but I would say that it actually ends up being 4 days a week instead. When I workout during my lunch hour during the week, I do 20-30 minutes of cardio then I pick out 3-4 machines and do about 3 sets on each. Today I did 20 minutes on treadmill and a quick 7 on the arc trainer. For the weight machines, I did bicep curls, shoulder press, then the back pulls (sorry, I don't know the correct terminology for the weight machines!). Since I did upper body on the machines today, I'll do lower body tomorrow and I alternate like that.

One person who I think is worth following (especially women) is Bret Contreras. He is a very well respected member of the fitness community and runs what he calls "The Glute Lab" for his clients. My W is currently running his Strong By Bret online training program. His focus is heavy on various hit thrust movements, along with squats, deads, and bench

In terms of the food side of things, MyFitnessPal is excellent for tracking your macros (https://www.myfitnesspal.com/). Some other good resources:

IIFYM (what I follow) - IIFYM Calculator - The Worlds Most Accurate Macro Calculator* - IIFYM

Intermittent Fasting (not something I can do but I know others who have done with success) - Intermittent fasting diet for fat loss, muscle gain and health

Bret does incorporate a lot of bench press, squats, and DL variations. I thought as well he was going to be big into the BB hip thrusts, but so far from watching my Ws workouts that hasn't been the case.

If I do hip thrusts at the gym, I make sure to make direct eye contact with anyone who walks by (guy or gal) while doing

I think that most programs that have these three main exercises, are the best. Mixed with accessory work too, and cardio.
