I think that Spanish is easy. So is Italian.

Chinese and Japanese... their "alphabet" is horrific to learn.

Japanese is very difficult.If you ever visit Western Europe most young people can speak English to a passable degree.I worked in Holland for a short while and what amazed me was if you went to the movies they were in English with Dutch subtitles.

I vote for Chinese. The Japanese syllabaries, hiragana and katakana make Japanese easier to read than the Chinese hanzi. Plus Japanese has romaji which is the romanized version of the words.

@heartsbeating studied Japanese and has traveled in Asia, what language is hardest for you?

C++

Even if I don't get likes for it, I'm still going to say it.

Re: in your opinion , what is the toughest language to learn?

I had no problems learning Spanish to the point of being fluent. It helped that afterwards I had a SO who was Puerto Rican so our conversations were in Spanish, even though he is fluent in English.

I have never tried to learn any of the Asian languages, but I would think they would be much harder.

Perhaps it is just me, however my in-laws spoke Dutch and I was able to pick up a lot of the language just by listening because many of the words were close to English and the sentence structure was very similar.
