Blood on the toilet? Oh hell no.
I always check Trip Advisor now before I book anything!!
That hotel is still running, The Earls Court Gardens, reviews of mice in the rooms, how are they not shut down?? And the price is 93 for a room! WTH!

LOL! You were only lucky that girl only did a number one!

I wish I could have checked Trip Advisor but my flight back home was seriously delayed. Try finding a hotel in Amsterdam in the summer time!!

And yes, I was glad she only did a number one. The shower was on but I could still hear her pee. Awkward!

A train station in Nurnberg, Germany, after a hard night of partying and missing the last train to Vilseck. Nothing like cold tile and the smell of piss to give one comfort.

I went on a drinking session in Rotterdam one Saturday with some colleagues, two of them had to get a train back to where they were staying and they fell asleep. They were awoken fairly roughly by the conductor.
They were in Cologne in Germany by then.

Re: Where is the worst place you have ever slept?

i once stayed at a flea bag motel out on the eastern plains of colorado, a stones throw from the kansas border.

it was a business trip and i was with a business partner of mine who happens to be an expert on spiders.

he told me to check my bedding and pillows before i laid down. I thought he was being a bit dramatic, but whatever.
meanwhile he checked under the lavatory and found a couple of black widow spiders underneath.
so, i checked my bedding, lo and behold an ugly looking arachnid fell out of my pillow case.

he examined it and determined it was a brown recluse, highly toxic with a venom that can cause a horrible necrotic wound and if
the bite is close enough to the heart or brain can be fatal.

glad i checked!

In a mummy bag on a narrow rock ledge inside the eastern part of the Grand Canyon. It was the first time I had tried that particular route to descend into the canyon and I discovered there were no places to pitch my tent during the first night, so I improvised.

the back of an overloaded RG33. in full kit. no seat cushion. we also had an MRAP in our convoy that had two litters laid out in them in case we took casualties. everyone took turns sleeping in them. we loved sleeping in them.

we got four hours in them every couple days...

My worst place to sleep?

Waiting room at Wolverhampton Station. It was filled with smoke, you could see a thick band of smoke, about a foot deep by six feet in the middle of the room.

It was undulating like a living creature.

Re: Where is the worst place you have ever slept?

When I was 24 (around 1992) I was elk hunting in the White Mountains of northern Arizona. I wasn't paying attention to the time, I was alone (yeah...stupid) and I ended up hiking about twelve miles from my truck. When I realized what time it was (about 3:00 p.m.) I knew I would not make it back to the truck, so I had to stay on the side of the mountain that night. I hiked until sundown before I finally gave it up and decided to stop and sleep. I was pretty scared because I knew how cold it was going to get. I was at about 7,000 feet above sea level with no tent or sleeping bag.

Fortunately, I had packed my long-johns and wool socks. That one halfway smart move saved my life. I also had a good thermal jacket on and a wool balaclav. I found a small sheltered canyon with a grove the of old juniper trees. I found a good one with nice thick boughs and some thick dry grass growing underneath it. So I gathered up some fuel wood, built a small fire undert the juniper, changed into my warm clothes and curled up under the tree with the small fire within arms reach. I slept pretty snugly, but around 2:00 got down to about 15 degrees. I woke up to a crunching sound. The crunch was coming from the ice that had formed on the outside of my jacket. I had let the fire go out...

I got the fire stoked again but couldn't go back to sleep because I was shivering so bad. All the rest of the night I sat there listening to the wind and animal calls. A screech owl let loose at one point and about sent me mad. Your mind plays all sorts of weird tricks on you when you are cold, alone and tired. Man, I was imagining all sorts of weird sh!t. There were moments where I could swear I saw eyes peering at me from the blackness beyond my little fire. It was spooky as hell. So I started singing. I sang really loud...every stupid song I could think of. I did that all the rest of the night. When 7:00 a.m. and some daylight came I beat feet double-time along that ridge back to my truck. Made it by noon and boy was I glad to see that truck. That beautiful, beat-to-**** old Chevy...

There was a truck parked near mine and as I was getting ready to leave I saw a couple of hunters walking up. I greeted them and we exchanged the usual hunter etiquette. Turns out they had stayed the night out also. At one point one of them asked me if I had heard someone singing in the middle of the night. They said they could hear it coming across from the other side of the canyon where they were camped. "Nope", I lied. I wished them luck and laughed my ass off as I drove back down the mountain.

Yep! I always backpack there in the fall season, so halfway down (the first descent) it is always freezing or below at night. I sleep with my boots and clothes inside my bag and wake up with frost on the outside of my bag.

The reward comes when you get to the river (at the bottom) and it's 65-70 degrees and get to sleep on the "beach".
