Default Ghost stories

We had a creepy moment this weekend. We were laying in bed around 5 am after we were both woken up by a toy going off in an empty bedroom and then a bifold door closed in our room. It was creepy. It was kind of funny too cause my manly man H got spooked to the point he got out of bed quickly and went to the living room. He made it a point to avoid that area of the house all day too. Hah. On our street., there was a double murder years ago, and there is an all but forgotten graveyard... Just a creepy thing. Anyone else have any unexplained happenings?

Creepy is my middle name...

I've lived in a house where there was a murder\suicide!! The first night we were there was..hell. There after was nothing but incident after incident and it took only 9 months to drive me out of the house.

Background: three adult males, one adult female, 10 yr old home, brand new appliances and furnace that was serviced twice a year according to landlord. No pets, 2 very young children (2 and and just under 1 yr old).

The first night a woman was heard (and verified by my BIL who lived with us at the time) scream crying through the vents. It was very distinct and identifiable. BIL even asked me if it was me (nope not me, no tv's on either) and we even asked their cousin (lived in basement) if he had a radio, tv or game system on. He was sleeping. Hubby was sleeping too. Just BIL and me heard it. It had been 3 am too. Kids were asleep.

Another incident in that house that caused me to NEVER do laundry at 10 am EVER AGAIN no matter where I live now - a pair of unseen fists or feet or something chased me up the basement stairs and followed me but stopped at the basement door. Literally banging on the walls and doors, just chased me...

I had a dream about the woman who was murdered there, she was floating in a swimming pool face down and naked (no swimming pool on the property though the backyard was big enough to have one and still have room for plenty more...makes me wonder if there had been one that was filled in). She floated just under the surface and then rolled around to stare up at me and point from under the water. The bluest eyes I have ever laid my sight on too. They were so blue it was almost painful to look into her eyes.

I got the sense of drowning but not on water. I felt like I was suffocating and I woke up with a coppery taste in my mouth and gasping.

Then, I saw her!!! I was home alone, kids asleep. The two boys (BIL, Cousin IL) were out party hardying it up and Hubby was working late. I was sitting watching television and I happen to look up and see her standing there. I could see her but see through her too (could see my oak coat rack through her). She just stood there and stared at me while pointing. She faded right before my eyes.

Black streaks would fly around the house right in plain view and out of the corner of the eye. My oldest (2 at the time) would go around the corner and then come tearing back screaming bad man, bad man.

I only stepped foot in the cold cellar once. Never did it again, it was a feeling of pure evil in that little cold cellar. I wouldn't use the bathroom on the first floor because every time I did the sounds of grunting and growling would come through the vents (day and night this would happen). I couldn't stand to be in the walk in closet in my bedroom. Absolutely would not go in without hubby or BIL right beside me (BIL teased me about this of course lol).

9 months and I up and told the landlord I couldn't stay there and had no desire to ever step foot in that house ever again! 2 or 3 years later I found out a man had murdered his wife and committed suicide in the cold cellar (it is directly below the first floor bathroom!!!).

Scary and creepy is an understatement!!!

CantePe - see, if I didn't see what I saw yesterday morning with my own two eyes, I probably would think your making that up! I've heard stories but only once did I "think" I experienced a ghost, and that was so long ago. This I saw just yesterday. It really opens my eyes to the reality of them existing with us on earth. Thank you for sharing! Your experiences gave me chills!

I have more stories of experiences as well.

I used to live in an apartment where a little 9 yr old girl brushed her teeth at 330am like clock work EVERY morning. She wore clothes that was very much like the 30s or 40s.

In the area I was living in it turned out that the whole block of apartments were built over a forgotten graveyard from the settler days (nothing they can do now, all the markers were gone by the time they built those shoddy apartment complexes) and there had been a train derailment (passenger) where the tracks ran behind those apartments. A girlfriend and I would see butt loads of "people" wearing old style clothes and walking along the tracks late at night or in the really early morning hours.

Then there was a road called Kirby Road (in Ontario, if you google it you'll come up with loads of stories about that road, including a verified auto accident that is part of some of the legends there). I went there on purpose to see if I'd experience anything - boy did I chew off more than I should have!

Story goes (this is for one end of Kirby, the other end has two legends associated with it) that a young girl of about 16 or 17 died in an auto accident on that road and now haunts a dwelling (since torn down) there. If you sit your car in the drive way (long country drive way with rows of trees and corn fields on all sides) and just sit quietly you will hear her giggling and tapping on your car all around it.

Well, stupid us decide to GET OUT of the car and walk the drive way. There was the young girl (her name is Selena) sitting in a tree staring down at me. Long black hair, European look, in some sort of summer dress or something similar just staring down at me from one of the trees I nearly jumped out of my skin when I saw her. None of the other 5 or 6 adults saw her that were standing with me.

I even drew her face (I suck at portraits mind you so to the best of my abilities) and turns out one of the old archived newspapers that has THAT auto accident listed on the day after it happened had a picture of the young girl!!! It was identical!

Also there is a grave marker (ironically on the opposite end of the road where the accident actually happened and not the other side where the legend occurs) that says (and I have pictures of it) "Selena : I was a cute kid"

The other end has KKK ties for its legends. It is said that the two house\two barn property (and again, since torn down) was a meeting place for the KKK and the father of a rather large family that owned that property at the time went nuts and killed his kids and wife.

They say if you stand in the barn you can see eyes all around you, giggling children and crying women and the sounds of gun shots.

Another legend associated with that end of kirby is the blue (some say its red) truck. There was a girl who was walking home late at night who was chased into the corn field where she was raped and murdered. A blue or red truck will chase you away from the property if you sit idle near that property in your car.

The first thing you see if the truck headlights, there is NO ONE in the driver's seat, just the truck and the headlights.

There's a variant on this particular legend as well. A semi-truck rather than a pick up truck. It also occurs further down the road where an overhead pass is located. You sit in the tunnel and the semi comes right at you trying to run you off the road.

I have more if you want more stories...

My hubs and I regularly connect with spirits...and in marrying him, I acquired a few that tag along with him. "Steve" being the most prominent. Steve came to me the night Hubs left...telling me to "just love him"...it was my twilight sleep, but I had seen him before-- once-- at Hubs' old apartment. I was not scared, just told him to leave me the eff alone, and he left.

I don't deal with the dark side, ever. It got me into some predicaments when I was younger and so I keep my communication with the Light ONLY.

For random spirits, you can tell them to go away, and most likely they will. If they returns and cause issues, you may have a poltergeist on your hands, and they are more difficult to remove.

I never talk about this stuff because most people think I'm crazy...That is, UNTIL they have a situation. A friend of mine moved into a new house and her and her daughter were hearing bangs and creepy sounds at all hours. When once she thought I was a joke (she nicely said it ), she called me up asking me to cleanse her home and I did. They haven't been bothered since.

It was probably the one thing that drew Hubs and I together after the initial attraction. He started telling me about his spirits, and I didn't laugh or say he was crazy, I started adding my own stories and we realized we found someone for ourselves that understood.

I stopped communicating with them while I was pregnant...to keep my own spirit clean to grow our baby...but I've been getting more into it as of late. I just have to be very careful of the ones I invite in because we don't want anything to bother the kids.

My older daughter has seen Steve. She has seen others as well. We haven't had the talk with her yet, as she's easily spooked...but the time will come when it must be talked about so she doesn't think she's a freak. My grams sees them too.

Living in the Chicago area, we have many legendary stories: The Bride of Mt. Carmel, Resurrection Mary, Showman's Rest, Munger Road (I sometimes take freight trains out in that area at night!), Bachelor Grove, etc.

Anyway, in the house we used to live in, you would sometimes get the feeling that someone was watching you, just behind your shoulder, and sometimes, we'd be in the living room at night and you could see into the kitchen, which would have the lights off. Our dog, who would always be sleeping by the doorway, would sometimes wake up with a start, look into the dark kitchen and start growling (I'm a great believer that animals have that "6th sense" that we as humans lost a long time ago). Years later, before my parents sold the house, we were talking to an old neighbor who lived there since the houses were built, and she said that they found some human bones where they were digging foundations for the houses (it was during the frantic days of the post WWII housing boom, and no one reported it), and that a couple of hundred years ago, an old Indian Trail came through the area, and that settlers would get ambushed by raiding parties.

Makes you wonder.

I got more, but I'll save for later!

Come cleanse my home!!! We think our 3 year old daughter "plays" with whatever it is in our house. Several hours later when it was nap time, she wanted to sleep in that spare room with the toy that went off in the morning... It was on a shelf way above her head, no way she could've seen it, but she asked for it to sleep with it... Whereas she hasn't played with that toy in months.

I haven't said anything to whatever it is, but this morning we couldn't shut that bifold door that had closed presumably on it's own just two days earlier.

All of your stories are reinforcing my belief in this creepy stuff. We're not planning on selling or moving, so we gotta figure out if it's a nice spirit in order to coexist

My biggest piece of advice is DO NOT play with Ouija boards.

My friend was playing with one in college with a bunch of people. He was, according to him, physically attacked by whatever it was that they were "communicating" with.

I myself have used the boards before but with extreme caution (I no longer take that risk, just too many "horror" stories so to speak). My mother in law used to tell me about her mother...She would buy one of these boards, the board would tell her so and so will die soon, they would die and she'd cut it up into pieces and throw it out only to, months down the road, buy another one and the cycle was perpetuated.

I remember once, we were using a Ouija board and I was recording with a voice recorder. We'd stopped playing with the board and my niece was talking about school and a boy she liked (this was a year after MIL passed away). Niece was all of maybe 13 or 14 at the time. I played back where she was talking and you can clearly hear my MIL saying "Life is good" (my SIL, her daughter, had been trying to ask her if she was okay - MIL that is was asked).

Whatever it was, MIL - something else, used my nieces voice as a base sound to say something, It was like hearing two voices at the same time but one voice as well. It sounded just like MIL.

If you look up the Frank Box in the paranormal circles, the theory goes that ghosts or entities can use sounds (radio static for example or human voices) around them to structure a speaking voice that they no longer have. Frank Boxes amplify this (I actually am on first name basis with Frank, the boxes he built are aptly named after him of course, we used to be on a yahoo group together).

You really do need to establish if this "spirit" is malicious or not. It's classic poltergeist activity (moving of objects, setting off touch sensitive toys or objects, sounds). I'd say it's about around a class A poltergeist (benign at the moment). It may accelerate into a bigger pain in the butt though if one isn't careful. They tend to feed off of our emotions and use our energies to manifest.

Also, certain sounds mean certain things. As well as certain manifestations mean certain things. Sounds of metal dropping on metal or coins (usually dimes or pennies) lined up in threes are a good indication of a passed on loved one who is visiting. Certain smells too...example, my grandmother loved lilacs and every time I felt like she was around I could smell lilac perfume!!

If you want really creepy (a side note here, I did some of the EVP work for this one) look up the Sally House!! Haunted Times Magazine did the investigation work for Sally House.

I can't stress that enough.

That's how I got locked into the dark side for a long while. It was hell to get away from it.

I don't know why they make those things. It's not a toy.

My great-grandparents are buried in Mt. Carmel cemetery outside of Chicago, and there is quite a bit of history there. The Italian Bride (they exhumed her body so that her family could put her engagement ring, which was found six years after the burial, in the coffin with her. When they opened it up, she hadn't decomposed at all!), and the most notorious prohibition-era mobsters are there. Dion O'Bannon, Angelo Genna, and a guy by the name of Capone.

There was a story about one of these cemeteries, not sure if it was Mt. Carmel, but back in the old days, they were serviced by railroads, and one night, so the story goes, a brakeman who would signal with a red lantern, was killed. Some people say that on certain nights, one can see a red light swinging. I don't know why, but that one gives me the creeps!

As a kid I spent a lot of time with my grandparents, we were very very close, grampa died when I was in fifth grade. Just a short time after he died my grandmother and I were shopping and I was going to shop lift a hot wheel car, I tore the box open and walked away and then came back to snatch it. As I picked up they car I looked up at what was an empty isle just seconds earlier and my grandfather was standing there shaking his head no! I was a tuff farm kid but I started crying like a baby and ran to my grandmother and told her I saw grandpa (no I didn't mention the car!) I don't remember anything else so not sure what she said. As I got older and more cynical I wrote it off as just some old guy who happened to see what I was up to, but who knows.

My niece had a baby girl last year and named her Emma after my grandmother, her great grandmother. I swear when I look into that kids eyes I see grandma looking back, my niece says the same thing, it's unnerving.

Cooper, your story reminded me of my first real memory of ghosts of when I was a child, not similar but it took me back. When I was about 6 or 7, there was a deacon's bench type piece in my bedroom, and I can remember laying in bed which was parallel to this bench across the room and two kids dressed in old timey clothes were sitting on it waving at me. I thought growing up that they were school kids that rode our bus, but I don't recall seeing them again in real life. Fast forward to today and I was looking at my son the other day and it dawned on me that I think those two kids sitting on that bench back then may have been my twins today. That same bench is in our house today and it's in the room where the ruckus began on that Saturday morning at 5 am I think that bench is the culprit now!

How about the story of Condie Cunningham in Montevallo University. That's a true ghost story and this is what it's about:

In Alabama Girls Industrial School, there exists the burning ghost of Condie Cunningham. In 1908, she and her other friends were making hot chocolate in her room, when the burner accidentally fell and Connie and her bed were set ablaze. Her ghost still haunts the 4th floor of that school and many strange incidents still occur there.

They forgot to mentioned that her night gown got caught on fire too and Connie did the worst mistake: running away from the fire.

When caught on fire you're suppose to stop, drop and roll. That's all she had to do instead of running. She died after a couple days in a burn unit.

One that is more recent... Niagara Falls, Ont has a rich paranormal history.

In Lundy's Lane Cemetery Niagara Falls Canada, Soldier's Monument on left, Methodist Church in centre - Details

I was visiting in July, my SIL lives there, and we went to the military cemetery near the falls and walked around. There is a monument at one end with real cannons from the war. We were half way to the one cannon on one side of the monument when I saw something mist like (shaped like a person) appear and then walk from the buildings to the monument and pass by the back side of the cannon then disappear as it was walking.

It scared the beep out of me at first because I had just looked up from looking down at my cell when it happened and got startled by it. Some of the grave markers are extremely old there and have no writing left on them, very weathered and very old. Whole families are buried there.

It was Lundy's Lane cemetery that we were at.
