Concerts

What bands or musicians have you seen perform recently or are going to see soon?

On Saturday I'm looking forward to seeing Amanda Palmer with my wife, while on Sunday I will be seeing PJ Harvey with our son.

Re: Concerts

More mainstream alt for us. Saw Weezer and Panic last summer with the kids. My son slept through Panic. He is a strange one.

Just got tickets for Green Day this summer. Kids are very excited.

Bruno Mars coming in October. Recently saw Red Hot Chili Peppers, Elton John, Evanescence, Three Doors Down and Seether. I love concerts! I also travel to NYC a few times a year to see musicals on Broadway.

Re: Concerts

My brother and I just went to see Stick to Your Guns and Stray From the Path in Philly at the end of November.

We like Metalcore, melodic hardcore, and often go together or with a big group to shows. Sometimes local if we can find it or we make the drive to Philly. This year we've been to a bunch of shows. Born of Osiris and After the Burial, Veil of Maya, Erra, Upon a Burning Body on the Sumerian Record 10 year tour.

Angry music for happy people : )

Forget enough to get over it, remember enough so it doesn't happen again.

Re: Concerts

I saw Peter Gabriel and Sting over the summer when they were on tour. Peter Gabriel was amazing, Sting... meh.

I'm waiting for Tori Amos to release another album and go on tour again... it's been too long.

I love musicals! I saw Kinky Boots (on tour) this summer, and Jersey Boys last summer in NYC. I want to see Waitress and Hamilton (of course), and I still have as yet to see Wicked.

What's on your list?

I'm not really a fan of musicals that are not Hello Dolly. I'm kicking myself for not getting tickets for Bette Midler. I did see Carol Channing on her farewell tour, was great except when she fell off a part of the stage.

My mom was going to get us Hamilton tickets for my birthday last year, I suggest we try something "different". We went to the ballet for the first and saw Misty Copeland, freaking awesome.

Ooh!! I haven't seen Kinky Boots!! Jersey Boys, ahhhh, awesome!!

I saw Waitress on thanksgiving after burning a hole in the soundtrack since last April!! It was FANTASTIC! Probably my all-time favorite musical. A must-see!!

Las year I saw Wicked (for the millionth time, still love it!), Phantom (again, of course!), Shuffle Along (AMAZING!! Second all-time fave), Chicago, Allegiance and a few great off-Broadway shows!

Musicals aren't for everyone.

About 12 years ago, the XH and I were able to get Bette Midler tix for my parents for Christmas, something I knew they (esp Mom, desperately) both wanted, but they cannot afford luxuries like that. By a twist of fate, a few weeks before Christmas, Bette Midler came into the restaurant where my XH was the exec chef (she was in our city on tour), and she struck up a conversation with my XH. So he asked her if she could sign a menu that he could give to his MIL with the concert tix. He said she was incredibly charming and sweet--and incredibly bawdy.

Re: Concerts

Last year we saw Jason Mraz, Sarah McLaughlin/Josh Groban, and Joshua Radin. I typically stick with smaller venues, don't really have much interest in going to large venues like at MSG. Not sure who we will be seeing this year, if anyone, usually depends on who will be playing at the venues close by

Kinky Boots was good, but I don't think it lived up to the hype. Honestly, I don't think it was Tony-worthy, but it was still fun. Jersey Boys was FANTASTIC--definitely lives up to the hype!

I saw Phantom when I was 12--my almost-first Broadway experience. Mom took me to NYC for my birthday, and that was the show I wanted to see. It was supposed to be my first Broadway show, but then she surprised me--she snuck out to the twofers (not TKTS booth) while I was at the hotel pool and bought two tix for Cats, for the night before we went to Phantom. Cats was incredible, except that this elderly woman sitting next to me sang along the entire time. Some people just don't know how to behave.

What else have I seen? Some on tour, some in NYC... Lion King, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Rent (wrote my college admissions essay on Rent), Mamma Mia, In the Heights, Legally Blonde, tick tick BOOM!, Avenue Q. I'm sure I'm missing some.

I agree, but it can't be too small either. My wife and I are old enough to need reserved seating, preferably on the aisle. Saw CHVCHES at Radio City (that and the Beacon are our fav venues) in fall, awesome. It was probably the biggest room they have headlined, alas I think next time they come around it will be too small and they'll be at MSG, sadly for me.
