What is the most inappropriate time you have started laughing?

I remember when I was at school smiling when I got into trouble.

As a middle school student and then onto high school, I got into trouble so many times because whenever I was in a situation in which I knew laughing would be awful, the stress would cause me to laugh. A close friend of mine and I dreaded choir concerts because we would have to stand next to each other. Both of us were sincerely scared that we might start laughing and the strict teacher (who never laughs) would be livid. It was pretty stressful.

Re: What is the most inappropriate time you have started laughing?

A long time ago at work a group of four of us were working on a presentation that all four of us had to present. During that time one guy drew this really silly picture of the boss and the caption was "(the boss's name) in a moment of angst". I don't know what it was about that picture but it got me laughing every time I'd look at it. Then the day came we had to give the presentation, 100's of people were in the room. When was time for me to give my part of the presentation I found the picture prominently displayed on the lectern. I started to laugh uncontrollably. It was very hard to stop but somehow I did.

Right before a spanking at about age 6-7.

I ended up positioned in my parents room and could see in the mirror. When my mom raised her hand in the air to swat me, I loudly yelled "OUCH" way before she could have gotten contact. Then I started to laugh and so did she. My dad heard this and came in the room and said "Are you going to spank the kid or not?" At this point mom and I were both in tears from laughing and she said' "I just can't!" He rolled his eyes and left us to our giggles. My parents were freaking rad LOL.

When I was a young I was an altar boy.One day while serving at a funeral mass the priest who was giving out communion tripped on the altar and dropped the chalice containing the communion wafers. The wafers went everywhere including under the coffin,I almost wet myself I was laughing that hard. The funniest part was only the priest was allowed to touch the wafers and he weighed about three hundred pounds,to see him trying to find all of them was hilarious.
I was asked to leave the altar boys after that.

When I got to HWY 80.....At first I laughed, Then Threw Up, Then lost all faith in humanity

Re: What is the most inappropriate time you have started laughing?

Me and two friends of mine were in a bar one night and it was laid out in separate booths for privacy. There was a man and his girlfriend in the next booth and they were discussing him finding out she had slept with her co worker on numerous occasions. She told him,and I swear this is true, that the co worker was Indian and his parents had arranged a marriage for him.He didn't want to disappoint his new wife to be on their wedding night so he was practicing with her.She then said she was just helping a colleague out and there was nothing sexual about it so it wasn't cheating. We could hear everything and I was doing my best not to laugh when the guy who owned the bar asked her how much were the lessons.I exploded with laughter, she got mad and said to him he should be defending her honour and that made one of the girls with me start laughing hysterically. They left together so I don't know I school is still in session.

I burst out laughing in the middle of a lecture class in college. The professor said something that was incredibly funny, but he was so dry and old that I was the only one who caught it. Everyone looked at me like I was crazy, except for the professor, who just kept going.

While watching a movie with some of my best friends.

A family was in a car that lost control and went over a cliff, killing them all.

The acting was simply terrible and I started laughing like a maniac.

After coming down a little bit, I noticed everyone was quite and one friend was looking at me aghast with huge eyes.

It's just the way it hits you. I told my story above to my wife and she said "You ****ing *******, how could you do that! Jeopardize your job and laugh like a fool? You *******, you better act professionally from now on"

Actually, that a very appropriate time to laugh. The professor must have loved you for it.

I know, but that was the best thing I could come up with.

I loved that class. It was 9 am on Thursday and Friday mornings (ugh!), and I am SOOOOOO not a morning person, neither am I ever punctual. But I made a point to never miss class and always be on time. He snuck little stuff like that into his lectures all the time, and he was super old, and he used these lecture notes that were so yellowed, it looked like he had written them out 30 years prior. and his delivery was SO dry, I'm not surprised no one else laughed.

I think he might have liked me. Sadly, I didn't have any real interaction with him, he gave the lectures and that was about it. There was no discussion in class, that was saved for TA sessions, and I think the TAs did all the grading as well. If I had been a little more confident, I might have had the courage to seek him out and speak with him in more depth. Now that I think about it, I may have spoken with him after class a few times to ask him for clarification on something or other, but those were limited.

I can definitely relate to not being a morning person. Thankfully I have a job in which I can come in after 9 am and I have a seven-minute commute to my office. Therefore, I am able to always be punctual.

Re: What is the most inappropriate time you have started laughing?

When I was in the military, we had to do funeral honors for deceased vets in the area. At one service in a small rural cemetery, I'm at attention at the foot of the casket facing the other service member at the head of the casket. This barking dog comes out of nowhere but we couldn't see it or look for it because we were at attention, you could just tell it was close because of how rapidly the sound escalated/approached. I could tell my fellow service member was about to bust out because of the look on her face, which got me all twisted up. Despite my best efforts to hold it back, a snort or two escaped.

We were able to keep it together the rest of the service but laughed our asses off when we got back to the van. Probably a "had to be there" kind of story but something about picturing one of us getting blindsided by an attack dog while stuck at attention was enough to break my military bearing at the worst possible time, if only for a second.
