Cool Re: What is the best backhanded compliment?

From an old head of CPA's at an oilfield manufacturing company that I worked for not too long after graduating college:

If he ever saw a good looking woman who had an absolutely crappy attitude, he would hastily offer up:

"I'd lather all over her just to get that witch in the sack, but if I ever got her there, and then when I finished up, I'd just light up a cigarette, pull a drag off of it and scornfully look over at her and tell her exactly how absolutely bad it was!"

"To love another person is to see the face of God!" - Jean Valjean from Les Miserables

Re: What is the best backhanded compliment?

true story, one upon a time after college, i worked for this woman who wanted me to date her daughter, and so i tried going out with her, but honestly it was like have a date with cardboard, so i told her that i really don't see us moving on with any kind of relationship...pissed off Mom (of course), but she needed me until the elections, she got voted in and i was voted out...i saw it coming and i was really okay with it...so 2 years go by and i see this car stuck in a snow bank, and i get out of my car, and i help the car get out of the snow bank pushing it out....so the husband get out and sure enough it the Mom and her Husband who thanks me for helping them, to which the mom said..."you don't look as fat as you used too."....which was nice.....and as i walked away the snow turned to rain (sorry different story)

While scrolling to this page, that statement was on my lips. Why? Because my boyfriend pulled that on me back in 1968! Boy, did I let him have it. At 5'4" and 105 lbs I was incensed. Then asked him if he would say that to a girl who was actually fat. He was backpedalling so fast his sneakers were smokin'.

A favourite one back in my bar going days if a girl came in with a new hairstyle or colour, someone would always tell her it would look ok when it was finished.

Re: What is the best backhanded compliment?

At least "backhanded" was used. As a partial lefty the "left handed compliment" term always made me think wtf?
