Need a good app for iPhones to monitor kids and limit screen time

I've demoed a handful and some suck, some are OK, and none do exactly what I want. Seems you have to jailbreak iOS to take full action of it. I just want to be able to automatically lock the phone after 8pm each night so they can't use. All the apps remove the shortcuts to the installed apps but leave iMessage, Phone, and other default apps still available. I really don't care how much it costs as long as it works. I need to monitor 2 iPhones.

Anyone have an app they really love and would recommend?

Take the phones away at 8 pm and lock them up.

Depends on the carrier, this is super easy to do with Verizon. You have to pay for the FamilyBase but you have complete control over what services are available to phones on the plan.

The issue still comes with regards to wireless, you have to setup your router to stop service as well, since the Iphone will still act like an ipod touch if given wireless access.

What exactly are you trying to lock?

I can never really understand why parents pass out cell phones to their kids. They are a complex instrument they don't understand and a huge unnecessary expense. To buy them just as a plaything for kids to mess with or just because their friends have them is really nothing more than plain stupid. My kids never had them when they were young even if their friends had them. To this day, if they want one, they have to buy it themselves.

We have verizon and I occasionally suspend phones as discipline.

I also can lock individual devices out of wifi through our router.

To be extra safe, I just take all of the phones from them at bedtime since my oldest is prone to hacking and can't be trusted, lol.

Yeah, taking them after 8p is what we're doing. Also want to keep track of web history, what they are texting, etc.

The phones allow the kids to facetime/talk/text to their dad, who lives half way across the country. When they are with him during the summer, they allow the mom to communicate with them whenever when they are gone for 2 months. Also also nice to communicate with them when they go to friend's houses, the mall, or when away. I honestly couldn't imagine them not having the phones. We just need to do a better job monitoring it and limiting their screen time.

I'm assuming you can't tell them what you want and have them comply? How old are they? If they're teens, I'd tell them what you want and give them a chance to succeed or fail. Plan for failure for a while and have reasonable consequences in mind first. Like take the phone away for a short period.

It isn't about punishing, but about having them accept responsibility for their behavior on their own - even when you're not looking. That comes from within - when they know you are trusting them and they start to fear disappointing you more that being caught and being punished.

I know of sounds like a crock but think back to when you were a kid. You probably could get around any restriction anyway. So instead of having the kids spend their time working in how not to get caught, have them work on accepting the burden of responsibility.

Won't work for all kids but might work for you

Disney, oddly enough, has some sort of parental controls app called Circle (I think). Saw it at Best Buy a while back. My cousin had asked me about parental controls maybe a week or so before that, so I forwarded a pic of a brochure to her.

You can delete google, disable safari, remove youtube and any other app you want. You can set parental controls with only a code you have. You can set it so they cannot install or delete apps, block websites, set ratings, etc.
