Cool New Addition to Ranch Today

Earlier this afternoon while my oldest son and I were doing some recon out in the back of the ranch, this little fellow came charging up out of the woods and was simply love-starved and lonely.

Guess this means that we'll have to keep him. He appears to be a 15 lb. golden lab mix, about 6-8 weeks old, an otherwise healthy little fellow, was literally covered in cuckle burrs. He rode with us in the ATV up to the oil pad and back to the ranch site! Once here, he got an introduction to a flea shampoo and bath and he flat ate the legs off the table when we gave him some Pedigree Puppy Food!

My son said "Dad, we've got to keep him!"

So my quandary now is, what do we call him?

To my fellow TAM brethren, you've now got your work cut out for you!

Can someone kindly tell me how to go about posting a phone/camera shot of him onto this posting?

Re: New Addition to Ranch Today

There is a complicated pedigree there Arb.There is some lab/retriever there but those paws are big and around his eyes there seems a bit of German shepherd or maybe even husky. He was lucky you found him, that's why I suggested the name.

@arbitrator, please call your local county shelter and report him as found. There may be a family out there looking for him. In my state/county, we hold for 72 hours and then rehome or keep. It is a felony to keep in my state because pets are considered property. He is a cutie.

That big paw and the fur? Great Pyranesse mix.

You need to take him to the vet and see if he's chipped. He might just be a runaway.

How far from where you found him is the nearest house?

Also check craigslist.org for lost and found pets.

If he isn't someone else's dog and you do keep him, the name is pretty obvious ... EllisRedding (cute, cuddly, want to take home to meet the family)

Thanks! Got a tip from a local resident that there was a momma yellow lab dog in the area that gave birth to 8. The family didn't want any of them as they were only able to find 5 to take to the adoption center in Bryan as the other 3 had strayed off. This little fellow was situated in some extremely dense woods, roughly some 1-1/2 to 2 miles from any dwelling. Judging from both his being totally covered in burrs and by his voracious appetite, he had been in those woods for quite sometime! Will be taking him to the local vet in the next few days and will inquire further!

In which case, he'd probably try humping my leg ~ and if that happens, it'll either be "Ellis" or "Humper!"

Love ya, Ellis!
