Cool Re: Online persona v IRL "you", does it differ?

With Ol' Arb, he's pretty much the same guy that I've presented here for almost 4 years now!

My next younger brother always taught me in life that if I ever came across anybody without a smile, to always oblige them!

Hope that I've richly lived up to that persona here at TAM!

I'm the same except for the fact I pretty much don't talk about sex in person to anyone else, except my wife or whoever I was in a sexual relationship with before her.

Is answering a question with a question annoying? Maybe that says it all!

I don't tend to share details of our marriage in person, whereas I do here (seeing as that's the point of the forum). I share my political opinions in person, whereas I don't here. I'm more assertive in person and likely too lazy to be here. I'm far more likely to ask questions and listen than to share about myself, as I do here. I do own wearable cat ears. And I do have a thing for Batman. mreow.

Yes. I am incredibly goofy and sophomoric in real life. I laugh at most things.

Sometimes I feel like my online persona is pretty serious...spouting off advice that passes as "wisdom" for people who are typically going through ****ty times.

If anyone met me IRL, I feel they would expect to be getting someone somber, when in fact they would getting quite the opposite.

Re: Online persona v IRL "you", does it differ?

Great question!

Very similar I would say. So much so that I'm sure if anyone who knows me IRL read my posts they would easily know who I am.

IRL I am very, very private about my personal life, so I would never discuss the things I have here, with anyone besides my spouse.

Ciao,

I am sorry to admit, but what you see on TAM is how I am IRL lol, a mix of a goofball/meathead/geek, with a hint of sarcasm . Probably the only difference, some people here seemed to be surprised when I noted that I was introverted.

Yes, yes it does. Just kidding, you are certainly not perceived as annoying.

* swoons * I'm not sure how productive I can be after reading that.

Sigh, my wife gives me the speaking treatment.

Re: Online persona v IRL "you", does it differ?

I think I'm pretty true to myself...with the exception that I complain a lot more here.

IRL I try to be more upbeat even when I'm falling apart inside. I'm much more private, and keep my issues in my own house. I think a lot of people who know me would be shocked by what happens behind closed doors.

@farsidejunky from the sum of your posts, I've always thought you have a sense of humour.

Re: Online persona v IRL "you", does it differ?

Good question. I laugh at stupid **** here & IRL just the same. I'm not a chatty person, and I don't really think that I am on TAM either.

I'm a private person IRL. I have talked about things on TAM that I really don't IRL. I tend to not voluntarily share much unless someone asks, but I'll open up to someone once I get to know them & am comfortable.

In general, I think I'm the same however just a little more open on TAM.

I would bet this applies to many of us here, just simply because we are online and the anonymous nature of TAM

This is the opposite for me, IRL I find political discussions boring. I probably discuss them too much here (I know better not to). On FB, I steer clear of political issues altogether.

I would rather spend my free energy working out or playing music (learning new songs, techniques), recording or jamming with friends.

Re: Online persona v IRL "you", does it differ?

My online persona is a bit different to who I am in irl. Irl, I've really nice, friendly, shy, talkative once I get to know people. I'm more upbeat in irl than here. I'm laid back as well. Here I'm always sweating the small stuff and being antisocial lol
