let me put it this way-
If I had to strangle a 1000 monkeys by hand if it meant that it would lead to a cure of cancer or would feed 1000 starving people, I wouldn't think twice to do it. I place human life on the top. I don't wish to see animals tortured and fortunately strangling monkeys by hands doesn't do anything good for humans. I believe in humane treatment of animals and support the humane society and SPCA and what they stand for. I don't however buy into the majority of the BS that PETA stands for.

You say you are for humane treatment of animals? Have you seen this huge cattle farms, mostly in Texas? They are so crowded that they can hardly move and they stand knee deep in their own manure all day...not only is this cruel, but dangerous because these farms give cattle corn to eat, not grass, which is what they were meant to eat, and by eating corn e coli develops..and have you seen this new chicken farms that Tyson owns? They have developed chickens that grow so much faster that they can hardly stand up...they can barely walk.
BTW, I do agree with you about PETA..they are a bit on the extreme side.
Re: What animals have you eaten?- the anti-vegan thread
one more thing before I stop debating you on this because I find arguing over this stuff a bit futile...
let's imagine that all 7 billion people on this planet woke up tomorrow and decided to stop eating animals and byproducts. They stopped using chemicals for pesticides and other uses in food. They stopped using genetics to enhance food and make it grow heartier and better to withstand transport and other such uses.
BILLIONS would die of starvation
BILLIONS
and that doesn't include the toll from the wars that would ensue nor losing all of the everyday products that result from animal tissue or testing
it's simple-
we do NOT have the resources to feed the world without animal domestication, pesticides and genetic alteration

Futile? I'm thoroughly enjoying is...I believe I already stated that if you want to eat meat, that's up to you, but read this article and tell me if you think the world will starve because nobody is eating meat...49 Good Reasons For Being A Vegetarian Most people in Asia don't eat meat and they are a lot healthier than most Americans. I really don't know where you got your information from, but you are wrong in so many ways.
Weston price has some good points, but is a tad too militant for my taste. The Traditional Foods diet is what I follow, but not quite to their extreme.
We could go on slinging these kinds of websites back and forth all day, but what it comes down to is that there is no real scientific proof that avoiding animal products is good for you. Liken it to sex. If you're vegan, it's like doing it missionary style all the time. There's other ways you can do it, but that's the one they choose. By refusing to give in to the fad and eating meat, you're allowing yourself to experience all sorts of different positions and pleasures that you just don't get otherwise, not to mention increasing your flexibility at the same time
I notice you didn't address my position on the traditional foods diet. Are you familiar with it?

I'm not strictly vegan..I do use butter and eat cheese and ice cream, and use half & half in my coffee, but in moderation..so I'm not as rigid as you seem to infer...there are an awful lot of foods out there that have no meat and taste wonderful...I've found tons and tons of recipes..I've tried quite a few and I am constantly amazed at how good they taste, so I am experiencing a lot in my life...quite flexible, I might add...
sorry, i am not familiar with traditional foods.
Re: What animals have you eaten?- the anti-vegan thread
Everything in moderation is key for just about anything I can think of.
Do some research on the traditional foods diet. It's not a 'diet' for losing weight, it's a diet in the sense that it's a certain way of eating. I could list websites but I'm sure you know how to google Sally Fallon and Mary Enig have cookbooks out about it, the 'bible' of TF cookbooks is called Nourishing Traditions. The Weston Price foundation is referenced above and is like the TF nazis - I've been to a couple of meetings and they are kinda weird (like, microwaves suck the nutrition out of your food, wtf) Sally Fallon advocates eating more meat than I do - some TFers eat it 3 times a day.
It's a very interesting idea, based on what societies have traditionally eaten over the centuries before we became slaves to processed food and disconnected from our food sources. It teaches things most people have never even heard of, like why you should always soak your grains before eating them, how to make your own butter, what kombucha and kefir are, and how to ferment your own sauerkraut. I love it - maybe partly because it appeals to the scientist in me (I have a degree in microbiology and genetics)

That sounds great...since the introduction of Agri Business, which has pretty much killed off small farmers, ruined the soil and brought about processed foods, thinking like this is a welcome change...another reason to buy local foods.
