I LOVE it when I come in under budget! $220 for a steel/porcelain standard tub and a toilet (brand new, free shipping!). I'm just so flippin excited about this. Had to share Thanks!

oh, good price there.
that should leave you enough money to get 'real' flooring then

Who'd of thunk it...? I'm not in construction. My H pointed out that the tub I just bought at a good deal was actually an over priced peice of steel! I don't know anything (well I do now..) about material for a tub! I thought porcelain over steel was similar to cast iron only lighter. Hmm. I am wrong. So I cancelled my "good" find and we are back to the drawing board... Only this time my focus is on cast iron.
And yes, we are looking for a good deal on slate tile.... IF we can get a good deal on another tub... Cast iron. Posted via Mobile Device

What's wrong with enamel over steel? I have never priced out tubs, but it sounds like a bargain.
Apparently quality, and something about them being loud and not durable for the long haul... I did read up on it after he explained it to me... It makes sense to me anyway... There is a tub that I have my eye on but I have to wait a few weeks for it to drop into our budget. Close to the price this was.. 50 more. Posted via Mobile Device
I did it! I got the tub I wanted!!! It's a huge soaking tub (can fit our whole family), cast iron. I found a pic online of what it will look like with the tile surround, can't seem to find it now (I wanted to share it with y'all).
It's hubby's fault I got it and he gets to pick it up tomorrow It has two places where the porcelain is cracked, but not where the water will be in it and we have the temp stuff to keep it from getting worse. It's a new tub, but I think when they were installing it elsewhere, it got damaged, yay for me! We got it for about 10% of the retail price because of those cracks.
I'm gonna keep looking for the pic I'm really happy we got it.

If you ever have to jump in it to use as an instant bomb shelter like in the movies the steel won't do you any good!!! Only cast iron tubs are good for that.

Or a tornado .
Poor hubby. He was up all night getting the space ready for the tub today. And already he's back to work, running here and there.... It's not even 7 am. So much for a day off. Trade off keeping toddlers out of his hair.... And a BJ tonight . Yeah, its transactional sex.... But its his bathroom too. Posted via Mobile Device
How do you add pics from mobile? Hubby set the tub and laid the floor yesterday. It looks better than I thought it would with the size of the tub... But it actually fits pretty perfect with plenty of open space to move around. Now I have to find my H's off switch as we can't afford to move any further on this yet. Faucets, tile surround, plumbing, electrical... Even though the services are free, material cost money. It's coming along Posted via Mobile Device
Okay so now we're on a break from completing the bathroom ($). Next up is designing my counter/vanity in there. At first I thought I wanted a normal vanity, one of the dresser looking ones. Changed my mind and actually going a bit on the less expensive side with H building our counter. A few options... black slate tiled floating counter top, at least where the sink is going (vessel), or raw walnut slab. I really like the slab idea and trying to go with both actually - it's a 50 inch wall and I want to make it about 40 inches across... So perhaps the tiled portion in the center and two slabs on either side.
