If HeartsBreaking is going to throw down the anime card, then I'll mention Akira, though I thought it was a bit overrated. Ghost in the Shell was better.

(First warning shoulda been Keanu Reeves. Any movie starring him is already handicapped in quality.)

Near the end of the year, saw The Mummy on DVD, and immediately knew we'd made the wrong decision on which to see in the theater back in May.

Funny, the same reaction you have to Keanu Reeves I have to Brenden Fraser.

so last night the wife and I were bored and browsed Netflix and saw they had Sliders. We watched this when we first dated so we put it on. It was no where near as good as I remember it being. Concept was neat (stuck traveling between alternate universes), but execution was awful. For starters, it's hard to accept Jerry O'Connell as a genius. The character of the Crying Man was difficult to watch as he is a borderline minstrel character. (I almost expected him to scream at one point, "Feets don't fail me now!") To add the computer animated special effects were extremely dated.

best recent sci-fi

Moon
District 9
Sunshine (got a bit hokey at the end but a really nice film)
BSG tv series except the ending

always like Lost but not sure if you consider it strictly sc-fi, Alcatraz so far seems to be a bit stale but I am hanging in to see if it gets better
Blade Runner is one of my favorites all time movies!!

I know this thread is about great Sci-Fi, but I had to put this up here... Falling Skies is horrible.

Had this same exact reaction when my wife and I recently started watching X-Files on Amazon Instant Video. Remember it being super interesting and suspenseful as a kid. Now it kind of comes across as cheesy. I still remember the cultural phenomenon it was at the time, though.

If you have a blu-ray player, you owe it to yourself to get the ultimate blu-ray collection that includes the theatrical cut and Ridley Scott's director's cut, which is better, IMO.

Am I remembering correctly that Scott just release yet another cut of Blade Runner?

Oh yes, Quantum Leap! I had a crush on Scott Bakula. Another reason I loved Enterprise too.

No doubt about it.

I know it's not Sci-Fi, but Memento is one of my all-time favs.

Inception is one of my recent faves. I listen to the score almost every day while working.

On a related Chris Nolan note, I can't freakin' wait for Dark Knight Rises. Like I'm counting down the days.
