Nerds enter here- best Sci-Fi movies and TV

I'll let Mori old it up with his reminiscing of how Jules Verne was the best sci fi writer of his day

best recent sci-fi

Moon
District 9
Sunshine (got a bit hokey at the end but a really nice film)
BSG tv series except the ending

always like Lost but not sure if you consider it strictly sc-fi, Alcatraz so far seems to be a bit stale but I am hanging in to see if it gets better

I like that movie Blue Streak with Samuel L Jackson (and the crazy sharks).

Source Code w/ Jake Gyllenhaal was really good

Agreed. I liked Cloverfield better. Super 8 was too ET for me.

E.T. .... Phone home.

Love it :)

I have to admit it's hard for me to maintain my interest in Star Wars as I've gotten older. Became obvious after Episode V that Lucas cared mostly about the kid audience.

Hey, who remembers having their mind blown upon first viewing of The Matrix? This guy does.

I watched the ending after the superbowl on AMC

special effects don't hold up very well 30 years later

Cloverfield is Godzilla meets The Blair Witch Project. Good movie though.

I loved Sunshine. Haven't seen the others except of course for BSG the TV series. Alcatraz looks fairly good, although we missed the last 2 episodes.

We don't usually watch them when they're on TV, we buy the DVD's and spend an entire weekend or two watching it from start to finish, in football off season. Which is now of course :) I also never watched Lost but want to get the DVD's.

I absolutely LOVED the latest Star Trek movie. Chris Pine totally channeled Kirk, and Karl Urban was awesome.

Yeah I remember thinking, WTH did I just watch? (Oh and Keanu was not a bad incentive either). :)

Keanu is good in anything that doesn't require much acting. Dude emotes like an uninteresting tree but is a great action guy.

The Star Trek reboot was legit. I'm no trekkie but it was most badass when Spock saved Kirk on that frozen planet.

That is why I said it was for kids. Lucas missed an opportunity to make it more compelling for mature audiences by pandering it to the kiddies.

BTW you should have been around in 1977 when episode 4 came out. I swear it was like the second coming for nerdkind. Unbeleivable.

Yep it was a very good movie. But the one which blew me away was 'The Sixth Sense' especially its ending.
