Holiday's and Families
So how do you all spend your Christmas holiday's? We are going to my inlaws on Christmas Eve and to my Mom's on Christmas Day. I am thinking about next year just having them come to our house. I have two young sons and they would rather stay home and play with what they got for Christmas. I know that my inlaws will not be happy with this decision though.

Re: Holiday's and Families
I think we are still planning thanksgiving first. Christmas might be a three day holiday with the way things are looking.

Re: Holiday's and Families
We don't celebrate Christmas but celebrate Yule and Solstice. It's a time of spending time with family and friends, and avoiding the stores as much as possible.

So you just celebrate it a bit early, It really doesn't matter if you call it Christmas, Yule, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, St. Nicholas Day, the First Day of Winter or whatever brings the family together in tradition and joy.

Re: Holiday's and Families
We alternate between staying at the families. We stay at one house one year and the other the next. Honestly, I hate it.
I would like to spend more holidays alone with my husband, but I guess since we don't have kids people don't see us as a family quite yet.
I guess I shouldn't complain though. At least both sides of the family are really nice and treat us well. I just don't want to wait until I have children (IF we do) to stay home for a year and get our own holiday stuff.

With all of my family we alternate who's got what holiday. I have Thanksgiving. My father and mother christmas. My sibling has easter. My in laws have Christmas eve. My brother in law the fourth of July. We also do some stuff just our family too.
As time progresses things change. It did for me.
It is good to have great family.

Of the first question I do not fully understand what you meant to say.
As for the second I can answer well. I divorced my first wife in 96. I have custody of our child. but we alternate holidays. I have him thanksgiving her the day after. Me Christmas eve her Christmas day. I have him the weekend before easter and she has easter, I have the 4th. It works well.

Re: Holiday's and Families
Holidays stress me out! My family lives in Texas and my husband family lives here (in Louisiana), and I am constantly feeling pressure from my family to be in Texas. We have two young children and my parents don't see them often because of the distance between us . How do other families handle the holidays with children and splitting time with between families? I would like to wake up in my own house for Christmas and enjoy seeing my open their presents. I feel selfish that I just want my family (husband, and kids) with me on Christmas morning.

Nothing wrong with that. I like the idea that all my family is within two hours travel. But having a holiday were I don't have to cook and clean after is nice.

I am still cooking my mom's house. My sister and I are cooking Christmas eve dinner for my dad's side of the family. Mom not such a good cook.

LOL, All my family can cook. I have been told I am a great cook. My brother-in-law was a professional head chef. My mother, siblings (or spouse) and mother in law are all great cooks. So food is never an issue. Trying not to gain weight is!

Re: Holiday's and Families
I found that after my kids were getting a little it was much easier to stay at home for Christmas, and just have everyone over to my house. Sometimes it seems like a lot of extra work, but just have everyone bring something and it will work out great.
